I’m in…sort of

Tonight, for the first time, I was able to log in and go comparison shopping on healthcare.gov. I knew this was going to happen sooner or later, and particularly because others (including Tony Jewell, Sarah Kliff and Jeff Young) recently succeeded in getting to this point.

But my “success” was limited. I still encountered a host of errors, which the site will have to fix if it wants to be user-friendly.

It starts at log in. When I reached my application page, I saw this screen:

Given the warning box at the top, I clicked on “Application Details” to ensure my information was correct. That led me to an error:

So I went back to the intro page and instead clicked on “Set” to select a health insurance plan. SUCCESS. That took me to some explanations about what I was about to see.

Here’s where I encountered an error again. Clicking on “Learn more about health plan categories,” I saw this:

Because of this, I just returned to the previous page and clicked next. And after a couple moments, I saw my options:

I clicked on the link to “How do I choose Marketplace health plans?” and I was taken to a page that worked (a different web address than the one that hit an error earlier).

But it wasn’t long before I hit an error again. When I clicked on the links in the screen below to look at the provider directory and summary of benefits for AmeriHealth, I hit an error again (below).

To be sure, the site is improving slowly, but there’s still a lot of work to do. The good news for consumers is that there’s plenty of time to sign up for coverage beginning Jan. 1.
