This has got to be one of the coolest things I’ve found on the Internet. So all Beatles’ fans know that the song World Without Love was written by Paul McCartney during The Beatles, but was vetoed by John Lennon because he couldn’t help but crack up after the first line that goes, “Please lock me away.” So Paul ended up giving the song to new singing group, Peter and Gordon, who recorded it and it went number 1.
The world has been searching FOREVER for a demo or some scraps of The Beatles or Paul actually singing the song. There have been some really suspect recordings that really can’t be verified, but Pete Asher (the Peter in Peter and Gordon) stumbled on a recording, laying in an old box, that he made of Paul singing one verse into his tape recorder so he’d know what it’s supposed to sound like before he and Gordon went to the recording studio to record it. This is that recording that was JUST released this year by Peter Asher. Very cool to hear Paul actually singing the song. There’s almost no doubt if The Beatles had actually recorded the song it would have gone number one. But there are many songs the Beatles gave away or sold that probably would have been hits if they had chosen to record it.
