The hub’s signature red hue is guaranteed to make a statement in any concrete jungle. Finding the right red took some time, but simple as the color choice may seem, the paint serves multiple important functions in addition to looks; it is an integral part of the Wheel’s mechanical assembly, and it keeps its surface chemistry intact.

Significant development went into engineering the Wheel’s road-ready look. The paint serves as a lubricating layer that separates the spokes from the chassis, bearing significant loads in the hundreds of pounds. It also acts as a barrier that limits galvanic interaction - a key cause for corrosion - between the various types of metals used in the Wheel.

Creating harmony between the Wheel’s design and finish was a matter of finding balance. According to our manufacturing engineering lead, Jeff Weinstein, “we’re building something new–there are no standards in the industry for how this should perform,” he says. “In terms of design and build, we brought the Wheel to the edge of possibility.”
