The Samuel C. Sachs Branch reopened to the public on Wednesday, July 27. Staff gathered with members of the Library Board and local officials to welcome patrons back to the branch.

There were smiles all around as patrons entered the renovated branch. Many had been commuting to Daniel Boone during the closure, and were relieved to have their home branch back open. There were lots of children in attendance with their parents–several ran to the colorful new kids area. One girl, Maddie, was celebrating her 7th birthday. When her mom asked what she wanted to do for her special day, Maddie said she wanted to go to the grand opening. A grandmother named Georgia brought her two teenage grandchildren–she said Clementine, her granddaughter, had been counting the days to the reopening, and would “live at the library if she could.”

Updates at the Samuel C. Sachs Branch include a complete overhaul of the interior space. A bold, colorful canopy leads into the new children’s area–which can be seen from any point in the branch. Teens have a designated space also, with computers and fun furniture. Three private study rooms have been added to the branch, as well as a new computer lab, a quiet reading room, a laptop bar, a business center with fax, copy and scanning machines, and a vending area. A revamped community meeting room with a projector, sound system and white board will be available for use by individuals and organizations.

Sachs is the first of five branches to reopen this summer and fall. The renovated Oak Bend Branch opens August 17, followed by Natural Bridge, Cliff Cave and Prairie Commons in September. Visit www.slcl.org/your-library-renewed to follow our progress.
