Stereotypes

I’ve spent an equal amount of time on developing my kids to succeed and forcing my interests on them. The ladder has been much more fun. Today we will focus on the former though. I am an open book in these posts. It’s to the point that my wife learned something new when preparing today’s topic. I failed the swim test the first time at Coast Guard basic training. It’s a great story for recruiting because it makes the applicant feel at ease. Outside of that I don’t think much about it because I can actually swim. I was just chubby and out of breath during the test at basic training. The kid in front of me stopped and I should have swum around but thought I could be clever. I thought I could take a break and they would allow me to keep going due to the other kid. It didn’t work and I found myself in remedial swim for a few days. NOT ON MY WATCH. My kids will be ready for that test and much more! That’s the serious part of parenting. Any weakness I can think of, I try to overcompensate and have them ready to dominate. Plus, I don’t want them to be stereotypical black children that can’t swim. MJ took swim classes when she turned one and is ALWAYS in the water. Mars also loves being in the pool so that’s covered. Thanks to Uncle Lathan they got to spend some time in the pool this past weekend in his apartment complex pool.
