Q:this might be a weird question, but do you remember what prop maker did the big eye sunglasses from the video for birdhouse ? i've been trying to find an original pair for years and haven't had any luck tracking them down so far
JF: I’m not exactly positive of this, but I suspect I made them. Maybe I made a couple and a prop person duplicated them, but I was so uptight about stuff like that back then I doubt it. But I did make some. Just got sunglasses at some 99 cent store, and spray-fixed xeroxes of William Allen White’s faces to black card stock that covered up the glasses. Voila. The smaller “floating heads” in the Puppet Head video worked along the same lines (just a baseball hat with duct tape on the bill and the top fixing a photo blow up to it. If you wore it like a hat the face would be tilting toward the sky, but tip your head forward and the head floated as if animated in front of your body)
What became of them? Who knows? They were just props. My good pal Peter Jason (who appears in the film They Live) wonders what became of all the magical sunglasses he had from the movie. It just comes with the territory.
