Education Front and Center
In November 1933, Cleveland Play House offered the nation’s first theatre education program lead by a theatre professional: actress Esther Mullin. This program, The Curtain Pullers, would inspire countless young artists throughout the years, including Joel Grey and Paul Newman. Education remains a crucial priority for Cleveland Play House. Today, artists from CPH are active in establishing and supporting school-sponsored drama clubs. In 2014 – 2015 alone, over 27,000 students from pre-K to high school experienced theatre through CPH. Additionally, Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Play House offer a master of fine arts degree in acting, a program that is entering its 20th year of preparing immensely talented artists like Rich Sommer ‘04 (Madmen), and Elizabeth A. Davis ’06 (Once).
