I often struggle with making new characters.. and not making them white males. Most of my characters are in fact white skinned males because.. I am.

The only times I’ve comfortable created a female is when they’re tomboyish enough to have this not matter..

And any people of color I’ve created are from universes unlike our own where there isn’t any discrimination based on skin color..

And the last category of ‘not white-skinned male’ I’ve created are non-humans, basically, where none of this applies anyway.

Every single character I’ve created ever has SOME PART of me in them, and even though I know I (sub)consciously do that, I can’t seem to fight it or step away from it far enough to make really different characters.

Kinda bothers me, cause on one hand I want to make a bigger variety of characters but on the other hand I don’t want to marginalize nor trivialize the possible implications that come with the character having darker skin or being female or …

…shit I hadn’t even thought about the fact that I mostly create hetero- or asexual characters.. and pretty much all of them are Cisgendered, too..

I just can’t put myself in someone else’s shoes when I haven’t had the accompanying problems myself. =_=;
