Coined by Asian-American actress and comedian Margaret Cho, #whitewashedOUT is a rallying cry against the erasure of Asian actors and roles, which also coincides with Asian-Pacific-American Heritage Month. One tweet shows exactly how white people should respond to this issue.
Awful reviews and criticism of whitewashing seem to have hurt Gods of Egypt in the long run. The $140M film is projected to make as little as $12 million over the weekend. While Hollywood whitewashing is a huge issue, one tweet highlighted the silver lining for people of color here.

Had the wire service managed to pick up a phone and dial Asian-American actors such as Daniel Dae Kim, Constance Wu or John Cho, they might have avoided painting a reductive picture.
Following his comments about diverse hiring on a new movie, Matt Damon is again under fire so comments he made about gay actors. In both cases, his response to criticism has been less than ideal. He speaks over critics, mischaracterizes them or gets defensive. But there is a way to course correct.

Update: Just when this couldn’t get worse, it did.
According to “multiple independent sources,” Paramount and DreamWorks, attempted to use CGI and other visual effects to slightly alter Johansson’s face to appear Asian, ScreenCrush reported. Paramount even admitted to most of this claim — but argued that one part of the report was not true.
