Feelings
Sometimes Castiel could be very protective over me. At first, it was due to Dean’s request. ‘Take care of the girl while we handle the bad guys’ type of thing. And yeah, it was pretty damn annoying.
I was a hunter. What good was I being stuck in some smelly hotel with a serious angel?
But things changed. Castiel changed. He became more…human. He had emotions that not even I expressed or even thought I had. And at first it startled me, took me by surprise. But the more I stuck around with him, the more he started to grow on me.
And that’s when it all started.
There were times when Castiel wouldn’t show up so I was forced to stay behind all by myself. I never admitted my longing for the missing angel, for fear of teasing and mocking from Dean, but I did miss him on occasion.
But one night, I couldn’t help it. And out went the emotions. Out went my deepest, darkest secrets.
Castiel finally decided to grace us measly humans with his presence, and while Dean was giving him the cold shoulder for not answering his prayers when he needed help, I tried keeping the peace, smiling every now and then when Cas would make eye contact with me.
But it wasn’t enough. I could tell he was still hurt by Dean’s rejection.
And I just couldn’t have that anymore. Why jump to conclusions over his absence? There must’ve been a reason why he went MIA, right? Maybe some business he had to take care of up in heaven. Who knew?
“Cas, can I talk to you for a moment?” I asked, feeling the butterflies in my stomach flutter like crazy.
Castiel frowned slightly, that wary look on his face already taking place. I hated when he wore that expression. “Of course,” he said, his voice hesitant.
I took a deep breath. “You’d tell us if something was wrong, right?” I bit my lip. “You-you wouldn’t hide anything important from us…right?”
His frown deepened. “Y/N, I’m not sure I’m understanding…”
I sighed. “Just…know that we’re here for you, okay?” I gave him a slight nod. “You’re not alone in this. We’re family and…we love you.”
Castiel let out a light scoff, his eyes cast down to the ground. “I doubt Dean loves me. I’ve been ignoring his prayers and-”
“Well, I love you.”
He looked up at me, almost hesitantly. “What?”
My heart thudded wildly inside my chest. “I said I love you.” There. Boom. I finally said it.
Castiel shook his head. “No. You don’t love me. I’m nobody and-”
I was already shaking my head before he even finished. “You’re wrong,” I said. Slowly, I made my way over to him until our toes were practically touching. “I’ve loved you for a while now. I just…I didn’t know how to say it.”
Castiel frowned. “Was that the reason you prayed to me? The tears in your prayers resonated deep inside me but I…” he looked away. “I didn’t know what it meant. I ignored you because you were crying.”
I swallowed hard. He heard my prayers. The ones I would whisper under my breath when I was all alone in the motels. Why didn’t he come to me? Why was he hiding.
“It doesn’t matter anymore,” I said, trying to fix the tension. “You know how I feel now and-”
Castiel shook his head. “How could you possibly love someone like me? I’m not human, Y/N. I’m not capable of loving anyone.”
“You’re wrong again,” I smiled timidly at him. “Everyone is capable of love. You just have to allow yourself to have it. Don’t hold back. Give into it.”
He sighed. “You have a lot of patience with me, Y/N. Thank you.”
I smiled and took his hand in mine. “It kinda comes in the package when you love someone. Patience is a virtue. I figured if I was patient enough with you, I’d tell you my feelings and you’d feel the same way.”
Castiel’s hand tightened around mine. “You’re not wrong.”
I grinned. Good.”
