Switch firmware 4.00 adds GameCube controller support ⊟
If you have one of those Wii U GameCube controller adapters, you can plug it into your Switch and use your old WaveBirds or whatever.
The process sounds pretty fiddly, as pairing any non-Joy-Con with a Switch can be (like, setting the Switch to look for wired controllers, backing in and out of menus a couple times) but then you’ll have more controllers to use! Not necessarily for all Switch games, since they don’t have enough buttons.
