Ecomismo and non-profit group Action work at several levels to raise awareness of environmental issues and help people in the Philippines. First, they partner with and pay high school students to collect the wrappers and help clean up cities. The companies then make an effort to employ single mothers in poor areas of the country to put the cases together. A portion of the proceeds are donated to support education programs for orphanages and street children.
The DSi/DS Lite cases are available in several styles with red or black pouches, silver or more colorful wrappers, and plain or multicolored zippers. You can also buy PSP cases, pen pouches, and small clutches.
Helping orphans isn’t cheap, though, at least if you’re looking to buy a case for your handheld. The DSi/DS Lite pouches run from ¥3,675 to ¥5,040 ($41 to $56) – those orphans will be able to buy mansions in Manila if enough people buy Ecomismo’s products!
