Aiming to make art that openly engages with the world, MIHARA creates systems that employ a wide range of materials, media, and technologies, such as acoustics, bubbles, radiation, rainbow, microbes, moss, air stream, soil, water and electron in order to continually questions the here and now. Since 2011, after an earthquake and tsunami struck the East coast of Japan, he has been working on ‘blanks project,’ which explores the boundaries of the systems that drive modern society. Since 2013, he participate residency program at 12 sites/ 8 countries from center of contemporary art to extreme environment, such as poler region(ars biaorctica), rain forest(labverde), DMZ(REAL DMZ PROJECT).
MIHARA has exhibited and awarded internationally, as his solo exhibition “The World Filled with Blanks” was held at Kunstraum Kreuzberg / Bethanien in Berlin in 2013, and Kyoto Art Center in 2016. Group exhibitions include “Open Space 2017: Re-envisioning the Future” (ICC, 2017), “Elements of Art and Science” (Ars Electronica Center, Linz, 2015–16), “Sound Art—Sound as a Medium of Art” (ZKM, Karlsruhe, 2012–13), residency at 10 sites of 8 countries such as SymbioticA (Perth, Australia), DEPO2015 (Pizen, Czech Republic), Kuandu Museum (Taipei, Taiwan) and Do a Front (Yamaguchi, Japan), awarded from Ars Electronica, Transmediale, Japan Media Arts Festival, co-auther of “Haptics Hacks(Asahi Press, 2016)”, Jury of Prix Ars Electronica 2019 and Finalists of NISSAN ART AWARD2020.

世界に対して開かれたシステムを提示し、音、泡、放射線、虹、微生物、苔、気流、土、水そして電子など、物質や現象の「芸術」への読みかえを試みている。2011年より、テクノロジーと社会の関係性を考察する「空白のプロジェクト」を国内外で展開。2013年より滞在制作を継続的に行い、北極圏から熱帯雨林、軍事境界からバイオアートラボまで、芸術の中心から極限環境に至るまで、これまでに計8カ国12箇所を渡ってきた。
主な個展に「空白に満ちた世界」（クンストラウム・クロイツベルク／ベタニエン，ドイツ，2013／京都芸術センター、2016）、グループ展に、第11回恵比寿映像祭（東京都写真美術館, 2019）、札幌国際芸術祭2014（芸術の森有島旧邸, 2014）、「サウンドアート——芸術の方法としての音」（ZKM、ドイツ、2012）など。展覧会キュレーションに「空白より感得する」(瑞雲庵, 2018)。共著に「触楽入門」（朝日出版社、2016）。アルス・エレクトロニカ、トランスメディアーレ、文化庁メディア芸術祭、他で受賞。プリアルスエレクトロニカ2019審査員。NISSAN ART AWARD2020ファイナリスト。また、方法論の確立していない音響彫刻やメディアアート作品の保存修復にも近年携わっている。
