What I love about this scene is that, for the first time, we're IN the shower with Dean. All other shower scenes, we’ve seen him poke his head out and say something funny. But this scene, we see him naked literally and figuratively. We’re so much more intimate than we usually are with Dean. He’s baring his desperation, his feelings, his worries, and the effects of the Mark of Cain. Water has always been a metaphor for cleansing the self. But we know that Dean can’t cleanse himself of the effects no matter what he tries. He wipes the fog from the mirror, but can’t clear the fog in his mind as he looks at himself and questions his morality and actions. He’s going down a road that he’s scared to think of and not only does he not have the full support of his brother, but he doesn’t even have Cas with him. It’s hard. And he can’t show his true feelings to anyone, but we get to see them. We’re in there with him. In a scene with no dialogue or music, the audience is forced to use sight to fully digest the scene. And we see what Dean sees. A confused man who is scared of himself and what he may become. (Plus it’s hella hot and he wasn’t the only one who got wet)
