Rihanna tweets at Chris Brown before a court determines whether he violated the terms of his probation for assaulting her in 2009. No words. (Some words.)
If Rihanna wants to get back with the man that ASSAULTED HER SO BADLY SHE WAS HOSPITALIZED, then that’s her own sad prerogative. But PUBLICLY SUPPORTING HER ASSAULTER sends a horrible message to both the abusers and abuse victims out there. If you truly do want to “wish him the best” (though why I can’t fathom), YOU HAVE HIS F—ING PHONE NUMBER.
As a public figure, her actions and words do send the wrong message… but it’s disturbing that people are affected by celebrities in the first place. Celebrities do not make the best role models. There’s a reality to be faced.
Honestly, I think courts should force both the victim and offender into counseling (separate sessions of course) in these situations. People who support Chris Brown and tell everyone to move on are only correct if he has faced the psychological causes of his behavior and made strides to improve himself. I agree that people shouldn’t just be taught that they are good or bad.
Until that time, publications shouldn’t just revel in ~*omg that new tattoo dang boy is full of it*~, they should offer phone numbers to help lines and real, scientific analysis of what is happening. There needs to be more public information concerning learned helplessness and battered person syndrome.
