Arundel is a market town in West Sussex.
It is one of my favourite places in the UK.
I’ve lost count of the number of visits I’ve made to this delightful town. My first trip was a very rare excursion in the 1950s when a friend of my father took me and some of my brothers for a picnic near the lake. Later, also in the 50s, I cycled there with a friend. In the 60s, I visited the Black Rabbit pub with some work mates.
I was in Arundel with my wife and her brother and sister-in-law on Saturday 5 May 1979 - how do I remember that? - because after an enjoyable afternoon on the River Arun we sat in the car to hear news that Brighton & Hove Albion had won at Newcastle and were promoted to the First Division!
During the last twenty years I have driven or caught a bus to Arundel on many occasions including this year.
Lot’s to see and do there - a favourite is to do a circular walk around Swanborough Lake and then to picnic by the lake.
Sometimes, we have had a pub lunch in one of the many delighful hostelries in the town or at the Black Rabbit pub at Offham.
