Genre: Christmas fluff !
Words: +2k
You were a nervous wreck. Your hands fumbled around with the neatly packaged Christmas presents as you tried to heave them into the car, only to have your cousin’s gift slip from your hand and into a mound of fluffy snow that had built up on the curb.
“You know your dear boyfriend would have helped you carry those, right?” Jun called from the doorway, hands stuffed in his pockets as he leaned his shoulder against the door frame.
“How are you so calm? Aren’t you nervous?” You questioned as he pushed himself off the door to help you. How could he be so nonchalant? So casual and put together? This was the first time he’d be meeting your extended family—on a holiday at that! Who knows what could happen or what could be said! They might hate him!
“It can’t be that bad. I’ve already met the scariest part of your family,” he chuckled as he picked up the fallen present from the snow.
“My dad?” You inquired. You remembered the first time he met your father and let’s just say—Jun was a nervous sweater.
“Nope—you!” He smirked, his voice peeked with delight as he placed the present into the trunk.
You dramatically gasped with your mouth ajar, hand clutching your not-so-broken heart.
“It all makes sense! You must be too scared to leave me then, huh?”
“Petrified.”
Banter like this was what made your heart warm and nerves vanish. He always had this way of lightening the mood. Everything you two was stupid and sarcastic, but it always made you feel lighter than air knowing you could be so in love with your best friend.
You still got butterflies looking at him—you loved him. Your parents loved him. The rest of your family would love him too. You still crossed your fingers and wished for luck all the way to Christmas dinner.
Stepping up to the front door, you took a deep breathe and turned to Jun. Your gloved hands reached up to flatten his collar as you looked up at him through snowflakes that settled upon your lashes.
“Don’t be nervous, okay? They’re going to love you,” you said exhaling, a white fog filling the air between you with each shaky word.
“Uh, I’m pretty sure you need to hear that more than me,” he laughed and gripped your shoulders in his large hands, giving you a light squeeze. “Just relax, Y/N, it can’t go that badly!”
His positivity only eased your nerves slightly but you guessed that it was better than nothing. You reached up to ring the door bell, but your mother beat you to it, opening to door with the biggest grin on her face.
“Honey, come in, come in,” she greeted as she ushered the two of you into the cozy house lit with Christmas lights and a fireplace that radiated warmth through your now frozen frame.
“Jun it’s so great to see you again!”
Once Jun’s name left from your mother’s mouth it was like it echoed throughout the whole house and in a matter of seconds everyone was at the door.
Greetings and introductions flew around the room as your family came to see this man you called a boyfriend who somehow managed to get past your parents and onto the rest of the family for a round two.
Jun threw his charming smile to every single aunt, uncle, niece, nephew and cousin in sight, winning hearts one family member at a time.
“Okay, okay let the man breathe,” you urged as your family settled themselves back into their previous seats. But you knew that wasn’t the end of it.
The questions came rapid fire as soon as you were seated at the table.
“So how long have you known each other?”
“What do you do for a living?”
“Family? Friends?”
“Are you a prince?” A sweet, small voice asked silencing the chatter of dinner, leaving only clinks of silverware. It was your little niece who stared up at Jun with starry eyes. Jun leaned toward her with the biggest smile and the familiar hint of mischief twinkled in his eyes.
“I just so happen to be Y/N’s Prince Charming. Isn’t that right, jagiya?” He said leaning back in his seat, draping his arm around your shoulders, earning a quiet yet excited gasp from the little girl.
“Easy, Tiger. I don’t even recall agreeing to date you!” You said matter-of-factly, crossing your arms. You most certainly agreed to dating this grease ball, but corny Prince Charming references only earned him a defiant sarcasm.
You triumphantly smiled as everyone laughed at the quip you threw at Jun, but your audience quickly turned when he threw one right back at you.
“Oh, my gosh! I think she might have amnesia!” Jun fake panicked and grabbed your shoulders as if you were on the verge of fainting. “Hey, it’s going to be okay and don’t worry it was the best decision you’ve ever made.” He replied, frantically feeling your forehead as if you’d have a fever, which generates deep laughs from around the room.
A smile broke out onto your face, as you looked at Jun with sparkling eyes. Leaning back in your chair, you surveyed the room. Your family’s faces shined with joy and warmth at you and Jun.
“You picked a good one, Y/N,” your aunt whispered in your ear as she leaned down over your shoulder. Pride spread through your chest at her words.
You know what? Maybe this wasn’t too bad after all. Why were you ever nervous? You turned to Jun, resting your chin in your hands as you planted your elbow on the table. You watched his face as he spoke. Every line soft and welcoming. His eyes crinkled when he smiled. Every feature was perfect in your eyes. You were nervous before—yes—but you’ve never been more happy to be proven wrong. All you wanted to do was scream how much you loved Wen Junhui. How much he meant to you and how much it meant to have his dazzling smile and bright eyes in your life. This was it. Nothing could tell you he wasn’t the one for you—even your family couldn’t agreed more.
As the night progressed, you watched your little cousins climb over him and tug at his arms so he’d go play with them.
“Please! Can please go build snowmen please!” The youngest begged to Jun with the biggest puppy dog eyes he could muster.
“Alright, alright. Get your coats it’s freezing outside.”
They kids ran to get bundled up to protect from the harsh winter weather as Jun turned to you.
“That means you, too. I might need some backup out there.” He was probably right, even you didn’t think he could handle six kids under the age of 12 by himself. You laughed and threw his coat at him, getting wrapped up in your own as the kids shoved past to get to the snow first.
The two of you sat on the front porch, hips touching, as you watched the youngest members of your family run and build their snowmen. You laid your head on Jun’s shoulder and smiled at the scene. Would this be your life one day? Kids of your own running around? You and Jun watching endearingly? You sigh with a small smile creeping onto your lips once again. Your eyes closed enjoying the comfort of him by your side.
The moment was abruptly halted when one of the kids ran up the steps and landed at your feet.
“Come on! Don’t just sit here! Build a snowman!” He said tugging at your arms. Your eyes opened as you jumped up to your feet and smirked down at Jun.
“Jun, I don’t blame you if you want to wait this one out. We all know mine will put everyone’s to shame,” you boasted.
Fake shock replaced Jun’s content smile as he quickly stood, hand over his chest.
“I’ll take that as a challenge.”
“No, you should take that as an insult,” you corrected, sprinting down the steps and into the yard blanketed in fluffy, white snow. You two tended to make everything a competition. Not that that was a bad thing. It kept things interesting. You both immediately started packing snow as your snowmen began to take form. There was an unspoken race to see not only who was better but who could get done first. Jun would reach for snow at his feet and you would smack it out of his hand. But you weren’t the only one playing dirty. Anytime you turned your back he’d knock some snow off the top of your creation, then go back to his business like nothing happened. But no matter what Jun did to slow you down, you still ended up being number one.
You stood back, hands on hips, to admire your work with a bright, triumphant smile. That is until ice cold snow slapped the back of your neck. A high pitched squeal escaped your throat as you jumped up, frantically pushing the snow from your exposed neck. Jun doubled over from laughed and slapped his knee trying to catch his breathe. Your eyes had gone so wide and filled with fear he couldn’t contain himself.
“You think that’s funny, huh?” You slowly bent down scooping up snow into your hands while keeping a close eye on Jun.
“Well, actually—,” He was cut off by a ball of snow exploding in his face, his nose scrunching up on impact. As he tried to wipe the bits of snow from his rosy cheeks, he lunged towards you. You tried to get away but you were laughing too hard. His long arms snaked their way around your waist, lifting you off the ground. Your back pressed into his chest as he spun around burying his nose into your neck. You could feel his warmth and laughter radiating through you as you threw your head back onto his shoulder letting out a laugh.
Your feet settled back in the snow as you stumbled out of his grip. You grabbed ahold of his hand as you kept falling, the snow giving you no traction. Your butt landing in something oddly solid as a puff of white fluttered into the air. Jun hands landed on your thighs as he tried to regain his own balance. He stared down at the pile below you. He slowly looked back up at you, snowflakes still trapped in his hair.
“You…murdered my snowman.”
You looked down at the lumpy pile. Your hand flew up to your mouth as you attempted to hold in your laugh. It was all in vain because before you knew it a small snort came out sending you into another fit of laughter.
“So now murder is funny? What about his family, huh?” Jun teased as he grabbed you once again and pulling you close.
“We’ll hold the most beautiful funeral for him don’t you worry.” You managed to spit out as your giggles died down.
He just stared at you, holding you so close that your noses were centimeters apart. Nothing could hide the smiles on your faces.
“Hey!”
You turned your heads towards the shouting kids—only to be met with a puff of coldness as a ball of snow made impact. Blowing snow from your face, you turned to Jun, still wrapped in his arms.
“Shall we?” You smirked, a spark of mischief lighting up your eyes.
“We shall.”
The kids all looked at each other and gulped. They didn’t stand a chance at a snowball fight.
