Coppola’s naturalistic style fits the source material, James Franco’s Palo Alto Stories, a collection of high school set short stories well as she explores the feelings of disassociation and sexual confusion of California life well.  Actors Emma Roberts, Nat Wolff, Jack Kilmer, and Franco move through the stories like a dreamy haze of youthful malaise and awkwardness as Coppola captures every frame with a moody effectiveness.
