Asian-American comedian Jimmy O. Yang stars as Byrne’s surrogate in portraying an up-and-coming stand-up comic looking for his first big break. It’s clearly a very personal, semi-autobiographical film with many clear touchpoints revolving around the romanticism of becoming a working comedian on the road for the first timed aided by a cast made up entirely of other well-known comics and touring stand-ups. Small but specific in its scope, the comedy plays well with its relatable themes about following your creative pursuits.
