Amazon’s television adaptation of the Image Comics teenage superhero series contrasts its bright and shiny, seemingly kid-friendly appearing Saturday morning cartoon style animation with some brutally violent imagery. Its vocal cast, led by Steven Yeun as the eponymous character with J.K. Simmons and Sandra Oh as his parents, is kind of ridiculous with so many familiar voices. Once you get into the long list of characters, who are mostly analogues of other famous heroes, the alien stories of home and sacrifice start to connect more and more.
