Mainstream (dir. Gia Coppola).
Coppola’s sophomore effort tries unsuccessfully to say too much about our contemporary internet culture without actually having much of any substance. It’s mostly a misguided attempt at being a satirical takedown on the current age of overexposed online influencers and digital content creators. Both Andrew Garfield and Maya Hawke charm yet their youthful energy feels wasted on the film’s obvious sense of obnoxious superficiality, a quality it’s ironically trying to criticize.
