Do Revenge (dir. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson).

Netflix’s viciously satirical teen riff on Strangers on a Train by way of Mean Girls stars Camila Mendes and Maya Hawke as two scorned high schoolers out for revenge against the popular crowd. There’s a bubblegum-coated sense of surrealistic excess in the Miami-set black comedy.

Where things go awry is when all the characters go beyond the usual quest for revenge and unnecessary ulterior motives are revealed leading into the big finale. Its hyper-awareness around radical feminism, woke culture, consent, queerness, and gross misogyny toy with teen movie genre coventions interpretd through its deliciously toxic relationships on screen. Still, the film tries to do too much.
