The Adults (dir. Dustin Guy Defa).
Michael Cera, Hannah Gross, and Sophia Lillis play siblings with fraught relationships trying to reconnect during a nostalgic trip home by Cera’s Eric who seems more preoccupied with beating his friends at poker than bonding with his estranged family. Def’s low-key dramedy is chock-full of cringey humour that only further highlights the distance between the anxious sisters and their aloof brother. It’s a low-key casually arresting film focused on the believability of the performances feeling authentically familial.
