TRENTHAM GARDENS

After our delightful morning spent at Monkey Forest, our sunny afternoon took us around the beautiful Trentham Gardens.

Ten years ago, Trentham Gardens (just outside Stoke-on-Trent) began their latest incarnation: a wholesale restoration of the formal Italian gardens and riverside estate by Tom Stuart-Smith and Piet Oudolf (both of whom require no introduction). The gardens were first laid out in the 16th century and have been in a state of flux ever since. Pretty much anybody who is anybody has worked on the park and landscape… In other words, this is a garden that has never been afraid of the new and refreshing.” [source]

There was so much to do throughout the vast Trentham Estate, and we enjoyed pottering around the cute little garden shed shops where we energised with a tasty ice-cream before wandering around the gardens. As you can see from the photographs, it was truly stunning, and a perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday.
