“It’s just that it’s been done so many times before it’s redundant.”
The direction, the acting, the costume design the almost everything besides the the story itself is basically flawless. The problem that I have personally with the plot is that I feel the “forbidden love” theme is a bit overrated. The star of the film Cate Blanchett, is playing Carol a woman who has experimented with her sexuality before (strongly hinted so in the film) is now in the middle of a flourishing “friendship” with Rooney Mara’s character. Mara’s character is young and vulnerable she has been through a few relationships and still has no idea what she’s looking for out of love. But one thing is made certain, the relationship that she was in at the time that she met carol was not a pleasant one for her.
Carol’s promiscuity causes her marriage to fall apart. Leading to a nasty custody battle. So she flees with her new lover. Even though I feel the plot is a bit weak I did continue watching the entire film because of the moving pieces around it. Everything was great about this movie, the emotion, the passion, the struggle. It’s just that it’s been done so many times before it’s redundant. Its very slow. Regardless it’s still a nice, enjoyable film.
