Imagine: Training with Edmund and being better than him at everything.

You laughed as you hit the bullseye with your dagger again, glancing back at Edmund to see him shaking his head and looking down, a slight grin on his lip. “Did you see that? That’s the third time in a row!” You announced proudly, turning to put your hands on your hips.

“Just because you’re better at fighting doesn’t mean you’re better at everything,” he tried to defend himself, setting his daggers on the table next to him.

“Oh yeah? Want to have a rematch with swords?” You teased, copying him and leaning on the table.

He shook his head, laughing. “No, I wouldn’t. You’ll beat me again.”

“Oh boo hoo.”

You both headed over to the stables to grab your horses so you could go on a ride. While you were trying to lure yours out of the stable, Edmund was already mounted on his and watching you struggle. “Having trouble?” he asked, raising an eyebrow at you.

“No, he’s just…stubborn, that’s all,” you said, pulling on the reins. Finally, your horse followed you and you lead him over to Edmund, quickly mounting him and taking the reins again. “Alright, you lead the way.”

Edmund shook his head. “We race,” he pointed his sword to a tall tower of rocks beyond the camp you were staying in. “To there. First one there wins and is crowned the winner of todays training.”

“That’s not fair, if I lose I’d still have won everything else so shouldn’t I win if I get there first?” you asked, steadying your horse.

“I’m the prince and I make the rules,” he said, smirking. “Go!”

Suddenly, your horse was jerking forward and sprinting towards the rocks the fastest it could go. You regrouped the reins and leaned forward, laughing into the wind as it whipped your face. You glanced behind you, hoping to see Edmund, but instead saw dust as he whipped past you. You turned back to face in front of you and saw him dodging under a tree branch.

He had you beat and it was only fifteen seconds in.

When you had come to a stop at the rocks, Edmund had already dismounted and was standing next to his horse with a proud look on his face. “I win,” he said.

“Hardly. I’ll still beat you in everything else.”

He nodded. “Alright, whatever you wish,” he took your hand and placed a kiss to the top of it, making you blush the shade of the apples you ate at lunch. Maybe letting him win wasn’t all that bad.
