Algae gives coral colonies their dayglo colors, as well as their food. When warming water make the algae produce toxic levels of oxygen, a coral colony will expel the algae, turning itself white. If coral doesn’t re-absorb algae in time, it will starve to death.
Two-thirds of the Great Barrier Reef has been bleached in the most recent bleaching event, the worst ever recorded.

The Polydiversity of Polychaete Worms
Alexander Semenov, well known underwater photographer from the Russian Federation, has posted a set of stunningly gorgeous worm photos on Bēhance.
Creatures from dreams and nightmares are here. They are real and they are unbelievably beautiful.
From the depths of the cold White Sea to the coral reefs of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Some of them were collected recently and they are still undescribed! They’re only a drop in the whole diversity of polychaetes.

The word ‘polychaete’
Each body segment of a polychaete worm has a pair of fleshy protrusions called parapodia that bear many bristles, called chaetae, which are made of chitin. Polychaetes are sometimes referred to as bristle worms. [WP]

This is the cycle of reindeer, Rangifer Tarandus, growing antlers, shedding their winter coat, shedding velvet, shedding antlers, and re-growing them. Keep in mind that antler growth patters vary between sexes, ages, subspecies, and even individuals.

What is it? A thylacine? Or a Smilodon? It’s…thylacosmilus! That’s right, an extinct relative of the thylacine, but with a short face and saber-teeth! Real animal folks. He’s not showing off, he’s just trying to catch snow on his tongue.
Alright this took a lot of time, and I used this tutorial for the snow.
