Bunheads- “The Astronaut and the Ballerina”
Michelle runs into a a familiar face in Paradise- her brother, Scotty (and real life brother to Sutton Foster). It’s always fun when we meet some family member of the main character of a show. We don’t know much of Michelle’s life before Vegas, and Scotty let’s us in of the world before the showgirl. There’s no question that Scotty and Michelle have that sibling chemistry, and all the scenes that they share together are gold. Scotty stumbles into Paradise and has been married 4 times, doesn’t seem to have his life together. Michelle had similar issues before moving to Paradise. This involves a classic sibling collision at the end, about where both characters are in their life.
One thing that threw me off: the dinner with Ginny’s parents. This is the first time I believe we’ve met them, and they’re divorced. The father is getting remarried, and the mother hates her. Even Ginny’s stepmom makes her wears a hideous dress that hides her chest, cause it reminds her of her mother. Melanie also had to sit through that dinner, and Ginny needs her to stand by the wedding photo shoot, which is not the same day of the wedding. Turns out, Ginny’s mom goes apeshit and ruins things. Melanie forgot due to her roller derby-ing. Ginny goes off at Cozette blaming her for being the coolest, I guess. Melanie apologizes for keeping the roller derby a secret from her, she was feeling stressed over starting to look at colleges, and that seemed like the right thing at the moment.
Boo and Carl become parents- but not really. Boo is full time babysitting while her mother is on bed rest awaiting her new little one. Between work, school and ballet, she reaches out to Carl for help. When he is running late, Boo must bring the kids to one of her ballet classes. Unfortunately, Jordan is taking over some classes and treats his class like a boot camp. He yells, puts people in time out and is just all around unpleasant. Boo uses her mommy ways in telling Jordan that he needs a time out and should treat the class nicely. Boo and Carl are going to be excellent parents.
Random Remarks:
-Melanie’s derby name: Cleo Smacktra.
-No Sasha this week, I wonder where she’s going to end up after her mom was just like, later!
-After the sibling fight, there is a ukelele sing-a-long which was adorable.
-One of the kid’s names is BEAVER. And no one can believe it!
-Scotty asks Michelle what she did to the barista. Call back from earlier in the season!
