Ben’s really excited he reached it, he just wants to be like his daddy. XD
So this started out as just one drawing… but I remember having a really cute, really brief thought of little Ben always trying to grab at Han’s blaster whenever he has his guard down. Unfortunately for Han and Leia, the little stinker thinks it’s a toy.
Han eventually learns to keep it out of Ben’s line of sight.

The middle panel was done in a rush, as you can probably tell, but I DO love squishy faced Ben. I really do. Look at his determined little face.

Look at this expression. He doesn’t want this.
His eyes are killing me.
I know I said I’d like to know what kind of faces he makes when he’s wearing the mask, what emotions he wears… But I didn’t need this. I love it. But it hurts, my god.
Not that this is news but since I’m seeing all these posts about it I just want to jump in and agree that Ben Solo is indeed the most depressing, miserable star wars character I’ve ever seen and I can literally feel my heart break a little more every time I think about this kid who never stood a fucking chance and who always ends up with nothing and no one and I swear to god if he doesn’t get his chance at some kind of happiness I’m pretty sure it will wreck me for a long time. I have never been so emotionaly attached to a character to the point that it physically hurts to think about him.

I get that casting someone to play a relative to a character in a film is pretty damn hard. Finding one with similar features and great at acting is probably harder.
While watching TFA I understand, seeing Han and Kylo in the same scene together, they don’t look much alike… but Han is like 73 years old and Ben’s 29………… Obviously, Han’s looks are a little aged in comparison.
But a young Han sided with young Ben?
Even though Adam and Harrison are not even remotely related, you’re telling me this doesn’t look even a BIT similar?
Like damn, they got it pretty fucking CLOSE.
I mean… shit, not bad.
Think of it like… he’s got Han’s features with Leia’s colours :P
everyone’s so worried about how ben solo just returning to the person he was before kylo ren would be “too easy” after all he’s done. how adopting that name would mean regression for the character and a lack of culpability for the things he did as kylo ren.
and I have to wonder, has it ever occurred to anyone that ben solo has never really existed at all? that there is no ben solo for him to return to? that there was never a time ben existed alone in his own mind, allowed to develop his own thoughts and view of the world outside of another’s manipulation and lies? that he never had the chance to develop into the person ben would have grown up to be, since snoke began grooming him long before even his adolescence?
how exactly, I have to ask, would ben building himself from the ground up be “too easy”? how would forcing him to do the tough and painful work of getting to know himself as himself equal regression for this character? how would becoming someone capable of understanding the moral weight of what he’s done to his galaxy and his family and himself be negating culpability for the things he’s done?
snoke didn’t give ben the chance to become someone new - he was molding him into kylo ren from the beginning.
and I can’t help feeling that ben reclaiming his name is an important step in defining himself for himself, for the first time ever.
/\/\/\ Yes, this. I kind of wonder if the filmmakers even grasp how deeply unsettling and terrible the implications of this character’s backstory really are.

Damn you Kylo Ren and your beautiful face I hate you
Saw some people getting into name meanings when it comes to the SW characters and I went to check ‘em for myself.
Poe means “Vain” or “Peacock” and now I’m laughing, that’s perfect.
Finn means “White” or “Fair” welp, that’s ironic. Though you could probably relate it to “Light” as well, similar to the meaning of Luke.
Han means “To contain” “Ocean” or “Gift From God” ..yes he is.
Leia means “Heavenly Flower” “Weary” or “Meadow” <3
Luke means “Light” which makes perfect sense.
Rey can mean “King/Queen” or “Ruler”. That’s mah girl. Awesome <3
Kylo sounds like just a made up name, or probably has a meaning in the film we don’t yet know of, but if we considered it some variation of Kyle, then it would mean “Victorious”. Also awesome.
Ren is technically a title, like Darth, but just for the hell of it, it means “Love” “Lotus” and “Ruler”. Interesting. Makes sense as he is the Master of the Knights of Ren.
And then there’s just Ben which means “Son” or “Right-hand Son”
Doesn’t that just hit you right in the honey nut feelios.
(I’m also kind of laughing at the “right hand” thing… you know… considering his family’s little habit of losing parts.)

Sometimes it’s random but other times it fits so well you have to wonder if it was done deliberately.
Apparently Lucifer is all I needed to get me out of my funk.
Nothing fancy, playing around with ideas and just wanting to get used to drawing his face~
