Ricky Remedy @ OPM Huntington Beach

Grammy nominated music producer and DJ, Ricky Remedy, unleashed a bass experience unlike any other last Thursday at Huntington Beach.

The evening started off with a series of openers, all super-talented and spewing with vigor. The theme of the night was all things bass, so naturally the DJs were blasting the venue with plenty of phat low-end. That’s right y’all, phat with a “P.” After Terravita  blew the house down with his ear-shattering performance, the crowd could take it no longer. We were primed and ready to rumble. Ricky Remedy was in demand. Luckily for us, he was right there, ready to deliver … and deliver he did.

From the minute he got on stage, the energy of the room was visibly higher. The crowd was stirring from excitement, totally aware of what was about to happen next. As soon as he began his set, the room exploded with energy. Hands were pumping, heads were banging, and feet were shuffling. Heck, there was even group of fans dressed as Pandas moshing in the newly formed mosh-pit.

While all this was happening, Remedy was jamming out along with the crowd. His own energy and vivacity is arguably what amped up the room so much. The guy really knows how to rile up an audience. Throughout his hour-long set, it’s hard to believe every single person in the venue was afoot. Unless my eyes were deceiving me, not a soul was seated.

I was thoroughly impressed with Remedy’s versatility and skill as a DJ. Though he is primarily known for his skill in “Trap” production, his set was by no means limited to just that particular sub-genre. In addition to trap, Remedy seamlessly toggled back and forth between dubstep, bass house, and future bass. The vibe of the room was constantly changing and fluctuating; thus, it comes as no surprise that everyone was having a great time.

After the conclusion of his performance,  I was lucky enough to snag an interview with the trap god himself, which further elevated my admiration and respect for him. With humble beginnings and years of dedication, Remedy got to where he is today. Aside from being a super-talented dj/producer, Remedy is a down to earth, hardworking, and genuine human being. His love for music goes beyond a hobby or successful career. It is evident in his  essence as a person.

Remedy is a must-see artist. He puts on the type of shows that need to be physically seen to be experienced to their fullest extent. I will definitely be following him and noting any future shows in the area.
