Peter Jackson has, rightly, taken a lot of flak for what he’s done to The Hobbit, but let’s not forget what he’s been capable of when at the top of his game.
Exhibit A: the Last Ride of the Rohirrim, from Return of the King. What an extraordinary piece of cinema: Bernard Hill’s finest hour (“Ride for ruin, and the world’s ending! Death! Death! Death!”), perfect music (not least the way it stops the moment the cavalry hit the orc lines). As E puts it, “That’s what Tolkien meant.”

Gandalf vs. Witch-king of Angmar in Minas Tirith (from a Russian edition of Lord of the Rings)!
In the book, the Witch-King doesn’t break Gandalf’s staff which makes it even better in my opinion.
