LaVerne Baker - Hey, Memphis (1961)
Doc Pomus / Mort Shuman
from: “Hey, Memphis” / “Voodoo Voodoo”
Produced by Phil Spector
Elvis Presley’s “Little Sister” song lyric makes mention of “Jim Dandy”, which was the title of a 1956 song by LaVern Baker.
An answer song to “Little Sister”, with the same melody but different lyrics, was recorded and released under the title “Hey, Memphis” by Ms Baker on Atlantic Records in September 1961.
