My little brother has just started watching the Marvels. We’re in the middle of Captain America first avenger. He’s only eleven and he’s basically crying over Bucky. (know the feeling kid) He just asked me if Steve and Bucky are friends in Winter Soldier and if Bucky’s happy. My sister and I are still laughing and crying. 😭😭😭😭

How many letters do you think Bucky sent to Steve while he was away at war? So all the time Steve was training, while he was being made into a supersoldier and then on tour as Captain America, Bucky could have been sending him letters. Bucky would have kept sending letters until he was captured but all the time in-between he must have been wondering why Steve didn’t write back. He’d say in the letter, that he should be at this place if you wanna write back, but he got nothing. He must have been so worried like, why isn’t he writing back? Could something have happened? Is he ill? No don’t let him be ill, he’s all alone who will look after him?
But then after they both die and Steve is then defrosted and awake in the modern world he is given all the stuff from his apartment back from the 1940s. And in one of the boxes are all the letters from Bucky.
I think after his capture and torture in CATF, Bucky would have rather quickly turned to drinking to try and forget what had been done to him. He would have kept all the pain and horrors and what he was feeling to himself because he didn’t want Steve to worry. Steve had so much to deal with and had so much pressure being put on him that Bucky wouldn’t have wanted to add to it. So instead he tried to remedy his problems with alcohol. We see him sat at the bar drinking alone when Steve’s off recruiting the howling commandos. That would have probably become a regular thing for him to do when off duty. Normally Steve would have noticed his change in behaviour and would have noticed him slowly spiralling into depression and alcoholism but as I said before, he was far too busy to even catch his breath. So when Bucky woke in the middle of the night after having the most horrible nightmares about what had happened to him, his immediate response was to down as much of the nearest alcoholic drink he could find, since he was still able to get drunk at this point, the serum was still slowly working it’s way through him, poisoning him. And the saddest part is that things weren’t and didn’t get any better for him. In fact they got a hundred times worse.
