Behind the Scenes of the Tomb Raider 20 Year Celebration Medley by Player Piano

In case you missed it at New York Comic Con, Player Piano - comprised of Composer & Pianist Sonya Belousova and Director Tom Grey – debuted an all new music video and medley that spans two decades of franchise history.

The medley takes inspiration from four tracks and twenty years of Tomb Raider history: with features from Nathan McCree’s iconic Tomb Raider theme, haunting notes from Peter Connelly and Martin Iveson’s Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness soundtrack, the global sounds of Tomb Raider: Legend from Troels Folmann and Jason Graves’ grand tribute to Lara Croft’s transition from survivor to Tomb Raider from the 2013 release.

As some insider notes from the making of the video, we counted

1. ONE wrecked piano – drenched in rain from the Angel of Darkness segment that begins around 01:35.
2. TWO axes – cleverly positioned next to the piano should any bears or wildlife have made unplanned cameos during the shoot. You can spot these if you look closely in the bottom right of your screen around 02:36.
3. THREE unique settings as Lara starts out in the vast desert, then quickly traverses to the rainy grounds of a Croft Manor-like setting at night, and lastly a brisk alpine forest similar to the Remnant Valley of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration.
4. FOUR nostalgic themes, spanning from the late 90’s hit from franchise composer, Nathan McCree up through the Survivor is Born theme from the 2013 reboot via Jason Graves.
