Copper runs, chases his favorite ball, snarfs up anything that happens to fall to the floor, and jumps up on chairs, couches, beds, anything where there’s people to sit on them. For over ten years, this toy poodle has been an amazing source of comfort not only for myself, but for family members as well.
On August 9th, 2017, we realized something was wrong. As he stays with my grandparents (Who adore and love and care for him since my family here at home cannot, with being away at work a lot), I only kew a few things as of tody; He was not eating, would not get out of his bed, was drinking water more than usual, and urinating excessively.
It was when this dog did not greet me when I walked in the door until I was stading inside the actual house. The dog that would be jumping at the door trying to get to me instead very slowly got up from his bed and walked over, then simply lay at my feet instead of trying to launch his tiny body into my arms.
A trip to the vet later revealed that not only was he extremely dehydrated and has a strong heart murmur, he is also diabetic. We haven’t taken him to the vet for a number of years due to another family member’s neglect on how important rabies shots and other vaccinations are, so he had gone untreated for who knows how long.
As of right now, writing this, I am facing up to a $5000 vet bill for a 3-day hospital stay.
Copper means the absolute world to me, and I cannot and will not let his active life be cut short. In order for him to not only get his treatment, but to then be released back to come home to me, my grandma and grandpa and chase his ball and get enough loving to last him another lifetime.
