Tosti Utility jacket turns to trad style winter duffle coat!
Just sewed up my new version of the Tosti jacket! This pattern was originally designed as utility jacket (or Safari jacket), but I re-made this as a traditional style duffle coat for the winter. You can see the original version of the Tosti photos here or here. Also, check all the cool versions of the Tosti from customers here.
The ease of this pattern is less as a winter coat, since this is intended to be sewn with thinner fabrics like gabardine or denim. So I made with one size bigger pattern. If you want to make Tosti as a winter coat or use thick fabrics, please consider about the sizing. I also add the length +2cm, and delete the chest and sleeve pockets.
The shell fabric is my favourite plaid pattern wool. Actually, it is quite thin and not suitable for winter. So I tried interlining with cotton for add extra bodice and warmth. Interlining is not difficult if the fabric is easy to handle, just takes times and patience. Off course, the result was very effective.
The lining is nice and soft faux fur with comfy texture. I really love this, even if it needs extra care to sew. The sleeve parts are quilted lining, so we need slippy texture here. Also, I added the fur trim to the hood for make it cuter.(The tutorial how to sew fur trim for Tosti is here)
For the finishing touch, I added toggle buttons instead of metal snaps. The closures for the detachable hood are also normal buttons instead of the snaps.
Thanks for the details it turned to a winter coat as I planned. I’m basically very happy with the result.
