‘Gnosis’ is a Term Found in the Sikh Scriptures
Gnosis: knowledge of spiritual mysteries; mystical or spiritual experience; personal, direct experience or acquaintance with God or heavenly realms;
He who immerses the heart in the immortal water of Gnosis
carries within him the sixty-eight holy places.
(Sikh Scriptures, Guru Granth/Adi Granth: “The Gospel of the Guru Granth,” Duncan Greenlees, Theosophical Society)
In the Guru-given Gnosis is contained the wealth of the Lord’s Name,
and the Lord’s Name, the Guru imprints in man’s mind.
He alone obtains the Name who is destined to receive it.
Ineffable is the story of Divine Love,
Let some friend of mine come and narrate it.
Unto him I surrender my soul.
Thou alone art my Friend,
0 my Omnipotent and Omniscient Creator.
Thou hast united me with the Satguru [True Guru]
my intimate.
Ever, ever Thou art my support.
Eternal and immortal is my Satguru.
He comes not, nor goes he.
He himself is the Imperishable Lord,
who is contained amongst all.
By ever meditating on the Lord,
the body-field is beautified,
the mind-realm is blessed,
affairs are adjusted,
fear flees and doubt is dispelled.
Abiding in the company of saintly persons [satsang],
the mortal rests in peace and poise.
Auspicious is the time when the Lord’s Name is meditated upon.
Renowned become they in the world,
whose Name no one knew before.
Nanak has sought the protection of Him,
who is Knower of all the hearts.
The Lord Himself has eradicated the disease
and peace and tranquility have ensued.
God has blessed me with the gift of great glory and wondrous form.
