Homemade taco seasoning
I want to take a quick minute to share with you a recipe for homemade taco seasoning. I made 7-layer dip for our small Super Bowl get-together yesterday and got soooo tired of reading recipe after recipe that called for stirring a store-bought packet of seasoning mix into the sour cream.
I truly hate putting unwanted chemicals into my food, so I’ve fudged with making my own concoction before. It’s usually a healthy dose of chili powder with some cumin and salt. Yesterday I decided to do an online search for a substitute that was more exact.
As it turns out, there is recipe out there. In fact, you can find the exact same recipe on a multitude of websites. The only difference is the quantity you end up with. Since I didn’t need too much for my purposes, I whipped together this tiny batch. Consensus? Touchdown!
For flavoring your meat (or tofu) for tacos, or stirring into sour cream for a southwestern dip, here’s a great recipe.
Stir all ingredients together.
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
- ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 1-½ teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
