My boyfriend is trying to explain cricket to me again. “He’s only got two balls to make 48 runs”, he says. The camera focuses on a man. Underneath him it says LEFT ARM FAST MEDIUM. A ball flies into the stands and presumably fractures someone’s skull. “There’s a free six”, my boyfriend says. 348 SIXES says the screen. A child in the audience waves a sign referencing Weet-Bix

Christmas Review #28 - Oh My Venus
The last four days of December are going to cover the dramas I’m purportedly currently watching. Although if I were to be completely honest there’s only one right now that I’m actively catching up on. Why are there so few hours in a day?
I’ve watched the first 8 episodes of this, and I do intend to keep at it, I just don’t seem to have the time. And when I do get time, well… it’s not really at the top of my list. I chanced upon somebody else who’s watching this, and we both agreed that there’s pretty much no plot to speak of, and we’re really only in it for the eye candy.
The romance is sweet, but I just don’t know if I buy it. There was hardly any build up, which is a complete 180 from my usual complaint about relationships in kdramas. At the same time, it seems so much more realistic. In my experience at least, relationships in the real world develop when you spend time together and get to know each other, and you just sort of know, without having to go through the typical kdrama ordeal of “oh my God I find him/her so annoying, but I care so much when things happen to them, but I don’t know why I care, what’s wrong with me, oh wait, it’s just love, duhhhh”. I like that there was a minimal amount of that, and instead it’s developing in a mature manner. I’m not sure I see the chemistry though. But that might just be me.
I enjoy this show a lot while I’m watching it, but there’s a lot of inertia when it comes to starting on the new episodes after they come out. I think I have two or three weeks worth of episodes to watch that have already aired, and I know once I start on the first one I’ll whizz through the rest of them, but there’s no element of “oooo I want to see what happens next” to get me to take that first step.
So yeah. If you’re a fan of anyone in the show, go ahead and watch it, because it’s not bad, but it’s probably not going to be up there in my all time favourites list.

Drama Exchange - Initial thoughts on what I’m going to watch
I thought it would be easier for my match to find a show to recommend to me, because there’s lots that she’s watched which I haven’t. Except…. I didn’t take into account how I use mydramalist.
If you’ve ever checked out my list, I have a lot going on in there. Every so often I go through all the new dramas that are coming out, and mark anything that looks remotely interesting as “Plan to Watch”. I’ve got stuff on there dating as far back as 2007. There’s everything from older Japanese dramas that I’ve read the book-versions of, to Korean movies coming out later this year.
And poor @triangularlily actually made an effort to pick out something that wasn’t already on there, that she still thought I’d enjoy.
I. Feel. So. Bad. (Sorry!!!! Thank you!!!!! I would buy you an apology cookie if I could, sorry sorry sorry!!)
Confession: After typing that out, and not finding a suitably apologetic Super Junior gif, I thought I should make my own. And promptly got distracted and spent a good twenty minutes making my own collection of very sorry Super Junior gifs. Here’s the most sorry of them all. Also, thank you!! It can’t have been easy, but you still got what looks like some kickass titles in there!
So! Here are the three titles I got in my email from our awesome organizer:
Either Seo In Guk is releasing an epic YouTube vlog type video thing on his channel with Ahn Jae Hyun and K. Will, or my subtitle-free-Korean is very rusty and he’s releasing a super problematic video, but either way I can’t wait to watch it.
