Getting it Done: Notes on Student Fritters
I realize that all of the time I spent on Tumblr this morning could be considered a “professor fritter.” Seriously, I spend so little time on Tumblr these days, but here I am, with syllabi to update for September, and I’m on recycling inspiration.
For it is inspiration that one looks as one begins a new semester. How to balance my familiarity with the subject matter as a support, and novelty to make things interesting for oneself and a new cohort of students?
I think I’m going to have all of my classes read this as an invitation to meta–discussion about the nature of the work, and possibly as entry to a mindful reflection about the nature of it. How do we move beyond guilt about work that is open–ended. I think it will be especially helpful for all of the first–year honors students, but there are students in the other courses who haven’t met me yet.
