sometimes what is so scary about people on here is that they genuinely believe themselves to be such good people and it’s so easy because it’s just posting. all you do is post stuff and it’s actually very easy to just curate a “kind and gentle” space 🥺 and then believe you’re a kind and gentle person and a stand up great guy and you’re so moral
and then you interact with them just a little closer and they turn into the most vicious cruel person because they have no clue how to actually act towards people

The OBSESSION with identity is so crazy like the view that when you do something it immediately becomes part of your identity and all the parts of you have to click together to become “person who wakes up early” or “person who reads” no you can literally just do something without restructuring your whole performance of personhood around it. I don’t know what to tell you except that you will never be able to have an entirely unfractured view of yourself or that you will be able to rationalize all the complex parts of yourself into the phrase “person who x” like you should just be doing things without performing them. Or aestheticizing them. Just try different things on and keep what works for you. Otherwise you will never learn and grow!

the issue with dean is that after a certain point he never has to put any work into any of his relationships because the midseasons break sam and cas' spirits so thoroughly in different ways
like in season seven sam basically has all the energy sucked out of him by trauma. like. the devil keeps him awake for a week and then he never really makes up that debt. like, sam is just so tired after season seven, he never really has energy again. but he's still capable of objecting to things dean does. but after season nine, when dean does something so awful to him and he finds himself unable to convince dean that it was bad and then dean dies so sam can't cut him off or force him to apologize... that truly breaks sam's spirit, that's when he truly rolls over. then cas... cas is obsessed with dean, so dean was never going to have to put in the kind of work he has to with sam. but he has to put in other work, not to maintain the relationship but to make it smoother. cas in his youth as i think of it is hotheaded, obnoxious, and abrasive. he's never going to choose to break off or even really decreas his relationship with dean, but he is perfectly happy to be kind of a dick to him if that is what the situation calls for. however, post-godstiel, cas spends basically the rest of the show on his back foot. he's consumed by guilt and totally unable to trust himself to make choices, and this ends up neutering his ability to meaningfully assert himself, particularly in his relationship with dean. and so this leaves sam and cas, for different reasons, just totally unable to assert themselves against dean, which means that dean no longer has any incentive to check himself or work on himself the way he occasionally does in the earlier seasons. like there's no reason for him to work to preserve his relationships because neither sam nor cas is ever going to break them off or even push back, so dean is free to suck as bad as he'd like with no restraint
