Mostly just RPGs and comic books. Not a "fandom" blog, unless D&D alignment charts count as a fandom. Nice people doing good things is my aesthetic.

Tumblr RPG community Recommendations

So my previous recommendations post was really dated, so here’s an updated one for those of you that might be new or looking for some RPG content on your dash.

Content Blogs:

So you like Critical Role

Here are some RPG-related podcasts, youtubers, and/or twitch campaigns on Tumblr.  I haven’t checked them all out, but they each have their fan bases and I’ve seen lots of requests for more of this sort of thing, so here you go!

  • @dimension20official - The team from CollegeHumor run through a variety of settings, hilarity ensues.
  • @thedungeonofbaddecisions - Twitch streamers that share their ongoing adventures.
  • @damesanddragons - "Dames and Dragons is a 5th ed. adventure in a homebrew fantasy setting that is about to celebrate it's fifth anniversary."

Quality People with Quality Blogs

  • @prokopetz - Official blog of David J. Prokopetz, game designer & author at Penguin King Games (@penguinkinggames)
  • @ladytabletop - Runs the annual Tumblr Tabletop RPG community gift exchange, among many other awesome things
  • @aztechnology - Throwing in some much-needed cyberpunk into the Tumblr RPG mix.
  • @gamergeek322 - Regularly shows up as one of the blogs I reblog from the most, so definitely deserves a shout-out.
  • @dare-to-dm - Gamer, feminist and mental health/educational professional
  • @wearepaladin - This somewhat in-character blog of the Paladin Tarek spawned the “We Are Adventurers” (WAA) collective and is great for inspiration, as well as ethics, philosophy, and encouragement.
  • @weareadventurers - The central blog for the WAA Collective, a group of blogs each dedicated to a different RPG class.  WAA helps the various blogs coordinate efforts, plus gives writing prompts & asks to the other members in the group.  Blogs for each class may contain artwork, RP stories, memes, general aesthetic, or other content focused on each particular class.
  • @theoutcastrogue - Probably the most popular member of the WAA Collective. If lock-picks and sleight-of-hand are your thing, you should definitely be following Rogue.
  • @wearecleric - My shoddy Cleric-focused blog as part of the WAA Collective.

"adventurers are actually more scared of you than you are of them"

"he's literally just doing what an adventurer is supposed to do"

"do you think they think of us as Giant Adventurers?"

"do you know how many other creatures would be infesting our cave if there were no adventurers?"

"how would you like it if you were bumbling along on your little adventurer day, and some giant dragon thing squished you for the crime of being yourself?"

"y'know, so many dragons are grossed out by them, but i think they're fascinating! Did you know some adventurers form symbiotic relationships with small monsters? Some of them even do a simplified form of spellcraft! Like, with actual magic and everything!"

what you think old video games look like

what old video games actually look like

It's probably just because everything sucks right now and I'm too emotional for my own good, but I was just thinking about my Aunt Barb.

She passed away in September and I think I might remember her funeral for as long as I live. Not because it was particularly unique--we Catholics tend to all head out the same way--but because of the eulogy read by her daughter-in-law, Tracy.

She said all the right things, of course. How Barb might have been the middle of seven children, but she was definitely the one in charge. How much she adored her grandchildren. Her uncanny ability to remember the birthday of every single person she'd ever met.

But I think my favorite thing was when Tracy recounted the day she first met her future mother-in-law. Her friend, Ross, had invited her to be his date for his older brother's wedding--nothing serious, just because they were good friends. Tracy had accepted and then ended up running almost an hour late because of traffic, etc.

She said that she scurried into the reception and waited against the wall as her friend, the best man, was giving his toast, not wanting to distract anyone with her presence. But Barbara spotted her and waved her over, pointing to the seat beside her. Tracy went and sat down, full of apologies for being late. But all my aunt said was, "Hi, Tracey, I'm Barb, Ross' mom. I saved you a soup."

What a wonderful legacy, to be the person who saves a soup for someone they've never met.

I hope someone remembers me like that one day. I hope I never forget to save someone a soup.

The sourcebook GURPS Goblins provides a fascinating variety of misfortunes that might befall player characters as a result of invoking random lookup tables. Some of these misfortunes have specific conditions, such as occurring only in particular seasons, or only to characters with particular traits; if such a misfortune is drawn while its conditions are not met, nothing happens, to the target's good fortune.

I've just noticed that one such conditional misfortune is that only male characters are at risk of being randomly struck by lightning. The "males only" tag is reiterated in several places, so it's probably not a typo, but at no point does the text see fit to explain why this is the case, or even to remark upon it in any way.
