WELP my Dashboard Unfucker stopped working and iirc the coder behind it has said they're no longer supporting it. Which they have every right to (not) do, of course, but now I am stuck with the actual default Tumblr layout and would like very much not to be. Anyone have suggestions for other extensions or what-have-you to go back to the way things ought to be?

For the purposes of this poll please just stick to birth names! I'd like to do another poll for names people chose themselves later in life.

#poll#names#my parents just liked the name and ditto my spouse and that's what we did for bébé as well#by sheer coincidence it turns out her first and middle names have the same meaning as my late grandfather's hebrew name#(which was his 'real' name—parents didn't speak english and a kindergarten teacher anglicized it for perpetuity according to family lore)#anyway we did pick bébé's hebrew name with an eye toward connecting it to both that grandfather and boyfriend's maternal grandfather#(both of blessed memory)#but that too ended up being more about meaning (albeit intentional) than key letters or syllables or actual names#bébé le deuxiéme's naming will probably receive similar treatment but we haven't actually sat down to discuss that in detail yet#yes i'm aware i'm like 29 weeks along here and we gotta get on that#it's different the second time around! and it's not covid so much this time and we have bébé la premiére to keep us busy!#also while i had a long-running first choice girl name we kept coming back to for bébé there is no such clear leader for no. 2#meanwhile bébé has given her toys names including 'baby yolk' and 'tickle torture' so she's clearly operating on a whole other level#that said we will most likely not go with her preferred baby name for li'l bro. which is 'cocomelon.'

I’m noticing an increase in new fic writers on AO3 who…uh…mayy not know how to format their fics correctly..so here is a quick and VERY important tip

Using a random fic of mine as example..

The left example: ✅✅✅

The right example: ❌❌❌

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

If a new character speaks, you need a line break. If you notice a paragraph is becoming too large, go ahead and make a line break and/or maybe reconfigure the paragraph to flow better. I’m not a pro writer or even a huge fic writer but…please…ty…

This is a good thing to keep in mind! It is often and unfortunate that a really good fic doesn’t get love because its formatting makes it too difficult to read!
