A Court of Golden Shadow | I. Genesis

pairing: azriel x rhysand's sister! reader

word count: 1.7k (she's just small)

warnings: death? threat of SA, depressy stressy situations, pining for an equally depressed bat boy.

authors note: okay, bear with me boys im not crazy about the first part. the pacing is weird in places, the middle is kind of boring and not much happens but we're rolling with it. i just needed to get the whole 'resurrection' scene out of the way before we can get to the juicy bits. next part we'll be in Valeris for some family reunions.

as always reblogs and feedback mean the world to me! i'm very interested to see what you guys think might happen or what you want to happen.

Chapter One: Genesis

Death came to you as a girl; vehement, cruel, and red-- terrible and red. The fear that comes next is worse. Not fear. It’s more jagged than that. It’s a strange kind of hunger that creeps in like sunlight and burns violently until it is all you know. Death is yearning. How soft a word for such a ravenous feeling you think. Death is hollow. It feasts on you. Until all that is left is an unforgiving blue darkness, further than Hel. And from that blue darkness you find breath.

Rebirth tastes like blood. The air is thick and the smell of ferrous liquid lingers there. It's putrid smoke and sweet like pomegranates. Resurrection burns through you like wildfire. Synapses set ablaze in white-hot anguish. Heat rises in plumes of smoke, and as the agony subsides, you step out from half-burned embers-- naked and clean and Made new.

The sun is still rising in the east, still not having reached its peak in the sky and the heavens are soaked in a honeyed glow. A vast array of colour lines the sky; veins of salmon, amber and topaz melt into swathes of hydrangea clouds. The hum of the forest around you rouses you to action and you suck in a sharp, almost pained breath. The next few tear through your heaving chest in sporadic succession as you claw desperately at your throat. It’s dry and heaving. The morning air tastes like firewood and charred flesh. In those moments of silent panic that last a lifetime, your heart plateaus to a steady, gentle rhythm.

Twenty Years Later: Joel Miller x F!Reader - Chapter Twelve

Chapter Twelve: As We Were, As We Are

Plot: Y/n and Joel work to avoid each other in Jackson, until they’re forced together in their most vulnerable state.

Word Count: 13.9k (longest chapter yet)

Warnings: tlou ep.6 spoilers, canon-typical violence, implied smut, suggestive dialogue, blood, guns/knives, wounds, language, ptsd, anxiety, death of a child, (16+)

A/N: Oh, boy…this is the chapter it’s all been leading up to. Every question will be answered. This is the first part of the series I’ve been genuinely nervous to release because it’s so important, and I hope it lives up to all your expectations.

As always, this series is 16+ and I will not be adding anyone to the taglist unless your age/range is specified in your bio. Gotta look out for younger eyes 👀

I hope y’all enjoy this one, I definitely had the most fun writing it ❤️

—————

December, 2023. Jackson, Wyoming.

For as small of a place as the Jackson commune was, it was very easy for Joel and Y/n to avoid each other.

Soon after she returned from the bar with Tommy, Maria announced that it was the town’s movie night and she was going to take Ellie. While Y/n would have rather stayed at the house and hid herself away, she knew the best place to hide from Joel was anywhere a crowd was present.

Inside the mess hall, they’d organized the benches to create rows of seats for the kids. Ellie was seated in the middle, looking back every once in a while to Y/n, who was stood with Maria and Tommy.

After their conversation, Tommy hadn’t pressed Y/n anymore on the subject of Joel. He had observed them from the night they’d met to the minute he’d left the triage clinic. With his bird’s-eye-view of their relationship, he could tell that the torch they’d carried for one another burned still, purely from the passion in their voices when they spoke about each other. The way their eyes came alive when the other’s name was mentioned.

Y/n had allowed herself to switch off, mindlessly watching the movie. The overwhelming rush of emotions she’d felt from both the domestic beauty of Jackson and the reminder that she could never have it had exhausted her. When Ellie would look back, needing reassurance she was still there, all Y/n felt capable of was a tiny nod. There was nothing left in her to give.

Traitors

Summary: Princess Y/N Velaryon has now been confined to her bedchambers as preparations are made to crown Aegon II as King. She is given the choice to betray her mother and family or her husband, Prince Aemond.

Warnings: mentions of death/incest cause of marriage (established relationship with rhaenyra & laenor/harwin’s eldest daughter)/cussing/crying/arguments/pregnancy/marriage strain/break up?/ANGST/part 2…possibly?

  Word Count: 3516

*NOT MY GIF*

You were woken by the sounds of jingling keys and voices outside your door. You were quick to get out of bed, going over and rattling the locked door.

“What is the meaning of this?” No answer, “I demand you unlock this door.” Again, nobody said anything. You could hear the armour of the guards shifting as they stood in front of your door.

More voices came from your window, you peered into one of the courtyards of the Red Keep. All the servants and workers rushing around. Something wasn’t right. You had even finally taken notice that Aemond was not in your bed. His sword and other weapons gone as well.

You paced around your room for what seemed like hours. You tried to distract yourself by getting dressed, doing your hair, and even tidying up your bedchambers. But you still continued to ponder all the reasons there would be to keep you confined to your rooms like this.

You sat at the window before the door squeaked open, your mother-in-law, the Queen, stepping in, “Good morning, Princess Y/N.”

You took note of her rather glum demeanor but your frustration still got the better of you, “Good morning?” you scoffed, “I’ve been locked in my chambers for Gods know how long and that’s all you’ve got to say to me?”

“Apologies for the lack of decorum,” she sniffled a bit.

  “Has something happened?”

“The King,” she stifled a bit before collecting herself, “he has passed.”

Why are people having so much issue with the article, I agreed with it? The title isn’t the most eloquent thing ever but the article wasn’t encouraging cheating, where you go behind your partners back, but instead looking at the issue of cheating as a not black-and-white thing where there’s one horribly evil person who just wanted to have fun/get laid with one traumatized-for-life victim. Instead, like most- nah, let me say with ANYTHING in real life beyond fiction, the article sees the grays in cheating and why the person cheated in the first place. Not to say that cheating isn’t a horrible thing to do, but I feel like people need to understand that there are reasons people do the things they do. People who cheat are human beings. They could feel horrible about it, they could be trapped in a marriage or relationship that they don’t feel they can escape, they can feel insecure and unloved. Again, not to say it’s something you should ever do, but dehumanizing someone over a mistake is just as bad in my opinion. There’s nowhere where they can talk about their experiences, and it’s likely we know a lot of people who have cheated in our lives even if they haven’t (or were too scared) to tell us about it.

when I was like, ten, I hated my older brother and wanted a different one. coincidentally, I also happened to think that babies were made by putting an egg (yes, an egg, from a chicken) in the microwave. this made me decide that I was going to try and replace my brother with a better, improved microwave baby. because I didn’t want to leave anything to chance I decided to put the entire carton of eggs in the microwave. I figured out of all of them, one had to have the perfect big brother in it, and it would most likely be the one that would erupt the baby out (which would also crush the rest of the inferior eggs and solve the potential problem of too many brothers). I set the timer to five minutes and after about a minute the eggs got angry. It was probably ok, those were just the babies that weren’t good enough to be my big brother. I went to sit down and wait because I would know it was done when the timer went off… ….. ………. The microwave caught on fire and set part of the kitchen ablaze. See now, my brother at the time was 14, and a real big shit disturber. He thought it would be funny to leave dirt in my bed, and he used to chase me around the house with his broken furby called “Glurmbo” that screamed from its eyes. So, after the fire had been set out and my parents asked us what happened, I stayed quiet and my brother, confused and anxious started babbling and going off about “that stupid fuckin microwave” blah blah and got defensive and angry when my parents questioned him. His naturally suspicious and defensive behaviour (again, shitty 14 year old boy) was a red flag for my parents and to this day they still think he set the kitchen on fire.

WHAT DO I EVEN SAY TO THIS

Okay, I don’t know how true this is - but this is huge fucking news.

I’ve been saying this for a while now, but Disney, Amazon and co. are trying to return to the studio system of the old Hollywood days that got - rightly - discontinued in the 1960s. Those were the days when each studio owned their own cinemas that could only stream their movies, where they owned actors who could only play in their movies (unless hired out by others) - and that led to people like Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe etc. literally being owned by studios that fed them non stop pills and driven to overdose.

That’s the end point. That’s not the point we’re at now. But you’ll notice that in the last 3 or 4 years, every major production company now has a streaming platform. Much like up until the late 1960s in America, you can only see movies on company-owned platforms. This, with Johansson, is a huge step further - the largest production company in the world - who breached contract, not the other way around - are now essentially blacklisting Johansson from working with them for speaking out against them. Sure, this isn’t a blacklist on the level of the red and lavender scares - but if they can do this to Johansson, the biggest actor in the world, it sets a huge fucking precedent for blacklisting anybody who stands up for workers’ rights.

It also sees Disney - and other companies will follow suit, as they always do - moving a step closer to owning their stars. What Disney is trying to say is that Disney and Johansson are not equal partners in the contract, but that Disney has the ultimate say over everything. This idea that the contract is a formality is absolutely fucked, because it means that artists have no rights under the corporations, and if they want to continue to work they have to obey. Nobody is signing exclusive contracts yet, but you bet this is reverting to Judy Garland times.

We are not going forwards. The movie industry is going backwards to the days of Louis B. Mayer (and it’s capitalism’s fault) and we all need to boost the fuck out of this. The courts will handle the Disney case - but we must support ScarJo (I say as very much a non ScarJo fan) and make sure that she continues to have a career after this, to set the precedent that audiences will not stand for future blacklisting.

i’ve mostly been staying out of this on my blog because idgaf about either disney or johansson, but this part is a very real and worrying thing

you should gaf about this. what is laid about above (and more) is very much the point and part of what’s at the heart of the suit. what disney (and the rest) are hopping towards is vertical monopoly. it’s technically illegal, but if it is not enforced, that doesn’t mean anything. exploitation is still exploitation even if the people exploited are paid well

Civil War (Chapter Nine)

Summary: (Y/N) and Vision have a heart-to-heart at the Avengers Facility before receiving a transmission from Siberia.

Pairing: Steve Rogers X Reader

Word Count: 3k

Warnings/Disclaimers: Disclaimer for a brief scene depicting/describing a murder (December 16th, 1991)

A/N: If you guys have seen Civil War, then you know what’s gonna go down in this chapter so be prepared for some angst! Thank you for reading, I hope you all enjoy!

Chapter Nine (Previous Chapter)

“Miss (Y/L/N)! Miss (Y/L/N), are you all right?”

Still doubled-over and with her hands planted firmly on her knees, (Y/N) glanced up at Vision as he hurried to her side on the helipad and smiled weakly. “I’m good, Viz, just a little dizzy after my helicopter ride from hell. Have I ever told you how much I truly hate helicopters?”

The android’s worried frown softened into a smile. “Perhaps on one or two occasions. Come on, let’s go in and I’ll prepare you a cup of tea.” He helped her straighten up and allowed her to hold onto his arm as he escorted her into the Avengers Facility.

(Y/N)’s solo helicopter trip back to New York had only taken a little over two hours but to her, it had felt like an eternity; all she could do was worry for the three men and pray that they’d reached Siberia in time to stop Zemo from waking the five Winter Soldiers. It’ll all be okay, she told herself for the hundredth time that day, they’ll send us a message when they’ve successfully finished their mission and captured Zemo.

Monsters in the Shadows - Avengers X Reader - Prequel Chapter

Pre-story Note: This is MCU Avengers based, alternate timeline so events are obviously going to be a bit different, but I’ll try and stay as close to canon as possible. As of right now, I don’t know who the pairing will be. Past Reader was obviously with Bucky and may be again, later, or she could be paired with someone else. Feel free to comment who you think she should end up with. This chapter is also a prequel of sorts, and once Reader’s powers are activated, her fingers a kinda stained an inky black, like, permanently.

Warnings: Loss, Trauma, Language (don’t think there is much, if any, in this chapter though)

Other Info: Y/N – Your Name & Y/L/N – Your Last Name

______

Ten years ago, she had been normal. Fifteen years ago, she had friends and was about to go to college. Her whole life was ahead of her and there was not anything standing in the way of it. They, her friends, had planned a trip to Washington D.C. to visit the Smithsonian before they all went their separate ways. It was something they had always wanted to do but could not until they graduated, a rule their parents had come up with. It was not even that they were interested I the history of it. More like, one of the had a weird obsession with Captain America.

So here they were, entering the museum with a crowd of people hoping to see the same exhibits. While her friends talked, she looked silently at the exhibit, taking it every bit of information, she could. It seemed familiar to her somehow. When they reached the section on Bucky and Steve, a switch flipped in her mind. She was flooded with memories, not of her life now, but of a life sixty years ago. A life that she had lived. A life that she had spent, loving a man that died at war. The same man that was Captain America’s best friend, James Buchanan Barnes.

“Hey doll,” a voice called, “are you ready to go?”

“Just a second,” she replied. She looked herself over in the mirror one last time before running towards the door. “Ready!”

“Steve is coming with us tonight.” The man held a hand out to her, “Hope you don’t mind.”

“Not at all. It’ll be fun.” She took his hand with a smile on her face and giggled as he twirled her around.

“I’m going to miss that sound.”

“You make it sound like you won’t be coming home.”

           “You never know…”

“Bucky, you have to promise me you’ll come home.”

The memory caused her to stumble back, holding her head. “W-what?” She looked around but she could not tell what was a memory or reality. It all seemed to blend together. When she heard a knock, she started to panic. There was not a door nearby, but it sounded so close. “I can’t….”

The knock came again, signaling her that whoever was at the door was not going to leave until she answered. She set the rolling pin aside and wiped her hands on her apron. Upon reaching the door, and opening it, she saw that it was Steve, only, he was bigger. “Steve? What happened to you? Why are you here?”

           “It’s Bucky,” Steve began.

“What happened?” She saw the broken look in his eyes and took a step back, shaking her head. “Don’t you dare…”

           “I’m sorry…”

           “Please…”

The moment he saw her begin to shake, he stepped forward and wrapped his arms around her. Her knees gave out then, and if he had not hugged her, she would have collapsed. It was the muffled screams into his coat that caused him to tear up. He held her as she cried, but he did not try to console her beyond that. There was not anything he could say that would ease what she was going through.

Upon coming out of the memory, she began hyperventilating. The heartbreak she felt, it was as real as if it had just happened. By this point, her friends had noticed something was wrong and were immediately at her side. “I… I can’t breathe…”

“Let’s get her outside,” one of her friends had said as she wrapped an arm around her waist. “Janet, help me!”

“Right, sorry,” Janet said, tearing herself away from looking at the picture of Steve Rogers. She took over on Y/N’s other side, and the three girls started heading outside. “What happened?”

“I don’t know. She was looking at the exhibit about Bucky and then this happened.”

“Maybe we should get her back to the hotel?”

           “Or she needs medical attention?”

“Michelle,” Janet looked shocked, “We’ll have to end the trip early if she goes to the hospital.”

“Fine, we’ll take her back to the room. But if she does not calm down soon, we’ll have to take her to the hospital.”

“Deal.” Janet released Y/N and went to hail a cab. After several attempts, one pulled up to the curb and the girls loaded Y/N up then climbed in.

Several minutes later, it did not seem like Y/N was doing any better. In fact, it seemed like she had passed out. There were tears still streaming down her face, but her breathing had returned to normal.

“Should we call her mom,” Michelle asked, concerned.

Janet pursed her lips, unsure of what to do. Just as she was about to say something, Y/N’s eyes snapped open. The only problem, they were pitch black. “Uhm, Y/N? Are you okay?” The response she received was a high-pitched scream that caused the driver to swerve into another vehicle. This resulted in several vehicles crashing into one another, an eventually lead to a pileup.

They thought it stopped there, along with Y/N’s screaming. But it did not. What happened next would cost D.C. half a city block and resulted in what would be nearly two hundred missing persons. A burst of darkness came from Y/N and swallowed everything within three hundred feet. As it faded away, the only thing left was Y/N, breathing heavily, and reaching out with blackened fingers.

Elsewhere, every available news source was covering the story of how a portion of D.C. disappeared in a black hole. Nick Fury entered the office, furious. “Someone tell me what the hell is going on! What just happened?”

“We don’t know sir,” Maria said as she hovered over one of the techs. “All we know is that there is one survivor.”

Nick looked up at the screen, seeing Y/N on the ground, clearly disoriented. He watched as paramedics rushed to her. “What hospital is she at?”

“It looks like,” Maria took over for the tech, “George Washington University Hospital.”

“Let’s go. I want to talk to her.”

          “Sir?”

“I’m willing to bet that teenager knows what happened. Might even be the one responsible.” He did not wait for a response before turning and walking out of the room. Maria followed quickly after. Within an hour, they were walking into Y/N’s hospital room, and he was taking a seat by her bed, while Maria stood by the door. “Y/N Y/L/N?”

Y/N had been staring at the ceiling since she had been brought in. Everything that was said to her went in one ear and out the other. When she heard someone say her name, she turned her head slowly to look at them. “Are you here to ask questions too? I already told them I do not know what happened. The last thing I remember was being at the Captain America Exhibit.”

“No,” Nick said, “What part of the exhibit were you looking at?”

She turned back to look at the ceiling. “James “Bucky” Barnes. I looked at it, and when I saw his face, I remembered things.”

          “What things?”

“It wasn’t my life, but it was. It felt so real.” She lifted her hand and looked at it, turning it over a few times. “The warmth of his hand. The feeling of my heart breaking when Steve said he was dead.” Putting her hand down, she turned back to the man. “Who are you?”

“My name is Nick Fury and I work for SHIELD.”

          “What’s that?”

          “The reason we are here.”

          “I don’t understand.”

“You are a peculiar individual Y/N, and we want to help you.”

“You think I did it, don’t you?”

“I’m not saying you did but your hands,” he gestured to her blackened fingers, “say you were at least involved.”

“By helping, do you mean lock me up?”

          “Is that what you want?”

          “No.”

“Then no, unless you give us a reason.”

“Okay.” There was not a reason to deny the help he offered her. Everyone else that had been in her room had already decided she was guilty. It was the way they asked their questions. The way that they looked at her. They did not treat her like a survivor. “Can you make me disappear too?”

“Sir,” Maria turned to Nick after seeing a doctor coming.

          “What is it,” Nick asked.

“The doctor is on his way. He isn’t alone.”

          “Who is with him?”

          “Looks like police.”

“Tell them we’re taking her off their hands.” When Maria nodded in response and left the room, he turned back to Y/N. “Welcome to SHIELD Y/N.”

Chapter 48 // SHADOW BOXING

┍━━━━━━━━ ★ ━━━━━━━━┑
“Romanoff, Barton, take the right...we’ll come up behind him—” Steve started as he rounded the corner in front of you, the metal of his shield glancing off what little light entered the stairwell and illuminated your lurking form.
“Or,” you hummed, your cloaked voice harmonizing with itself in the stairwell. Steve jumped, raising his shield in front of him and the team, “You could meet me mask-to-face.”
Steve froze, staring at you like a deer in the headlights, “Jesus Christ.”
“No, just me,” you shrugged, not bothering to get up as the rest of his team came into view, “Just...Ghost.”
