basically everyone read this in the right way. but just to make it blatantly clear: whatever beliefs you had, whatever disinformation you were exposed to, whether you cared about the trial or not, you were not manipulated into being deeply cruel. the cruelty came from you

i think the sickest moment for me in the series of sick moments that this trial has been was when amber had to testify about being raped and broke down beforehand saying “i don’t want to do this” or “i can’t believe i have to do this” or something to that effect, and elaine was saying “i’m so sorry, i’m so sorry” as she asked the questions that she had to ask. i know from personal experience that recounting the details of rape, even confidentially to just two or three professionals who have no reason to disbelieve you, can be unbelievably humiliating, distressing, and re-traumatizing. having do it in a court room full of people, including lawyers ready to accuse me of lying and rip my story apart, including MY RAPIST himself, and having it live-streamed to a world of people ready and delighted to openly mock and dismiss it, would have sent me to levels of despair that i cannot fathom. i think making her do that is johnny depp’s most deeply evil action so far, which is saying something. he cannot burn in hell soon enough, and neither can that judge that allowed a domestic violence trial to be live-streamed. i’m so sick

🏳️‍🌈 Ruth Ellis (1899 - 2000) was the daughter of former slaves. She came out as a lesbian when she was 16-years-old to the complete acceptance of her family. In 1937, Ruth and her longtime partner moved to Detroit from their hometown of Springfield, Illinois for the promise of higher wages. There, she became the first woman in Michigan to run her own printing business. She printed fliers, posters, and stationary in the front room of her home, which also quickly became a hotspot for Black LGBTQ social life. Before long, Ruth was helping those who came around in any way she could, including by paying for college tuitions. After the Stonewall uprising, 70-year-old Ruth began giving speeches in support of gay and lesbian rights all across the country. She remained an activist for the rest of her long life and even spent her 100th birthday leading the San Francisco Dyke March. At the time of her death at 101, she was recognized as the oldest out lesbian in the US. She is the subject of the documentary "Living With Pride: Ruth C. Ellis @ 100" and is the namesake of the Ruth Ellis Center, a shelter for homeless and at-risk LGBTQ youth in Detroit.
