“so uhm,” he choked out nervously, clearing his throat momentarily. “could we maybe exchange numbers?” he asked, his voice breaking more than once in that short sentence alone. “you know, so we could maybe hang out again.” he shrugged his shoulders. “–i mean –i mean it wouldn’t have to be in public, you could come to mine or–” he began to ramble, nerves written over his face.
when jennifer stopped abruptly, the male’s brows tugged together confusedly as his gaze remained on the woman. “oh, most certainly. i feel like at this point, he’d go to world’s end for her.” he mused softly, a hint of a smile pulling at his lips at how happy his best friend truly was, his gaze looking over in their direction.
“he enjoys the attention of people comparing his initials to such an intimate act?” he asked, clearly confused and not in the slightest bit mockingly. though despite that, there was no doubt that he was still rather flustered over discussing such a thing with one of the most beautiful girl’s he’d ever seen– and the only one that had ever done such a thing to him.
“–oh, it’s just over there,” he murmured, snaking his arm around jenna’s petite waist and pulling her closer to his side as he used his other hand to point to where their allocated seating was.
“Yes,” Absolutely. Jake could have her number. Her response still made her want to cringe but she didn’t know how much longer she’d be able to to deny her blossoming feelings for him. She hadn’t felt this way in a long time, and tonight was a cause for celebration. Not theirs, but in addition to. “Let’s wait until we sit down,” Jenna had already pulled out her phone to go to the dial page but was quickly overwhelmed with the noise of the celebration and the things that were in her hands. She shut her phone off but continued to hold it firmly at her side.
Jenna nodded, almost at a loss for what to say. It was evident that by Jake’s rehashing, he’d never understand BJ’s ways. There was nothing she could do except give him the space he needed to dwell on the subject.
She could feel the goosebumps on her arms form as Jake pulled her in. She could feel herself leaning into him as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Their table was not far from where they were but she wasn’t in any rush to get to it. With their seating arrangements, they didn’t need to be.
“Here you go,” Jennifer turned her smartphone around so Jake could see the screen. She figured that it would be easier if she just texted him her number, or he would give her his own phone. Who knew how he was going to respond to this exchange.
