Tortuga did not disappoint.

It was exactly what she had been picturing. Prostitutes dotted every street corner, drunkards sleeping in pig pens, alleys overrun with rats, and a bar fight nearly every hour. The streets stunk of piss, hay, and sweat. There was an ever present noise; people shouting to one another, Captains barking orders, cries of anger mixing right alongside the near constant cheers of jolly. And—

Edwina loved it.

Unbreakable Gems, Shattered Illusions (THG)

Emerald DuChamp stared out across the Capitolite party with distaste. 

Gaudy outfits stretched as far as the eye could see; pink was in season, apparently, and on the far side of the courtyard she could see a few women clamoring around a pink-haired, pink-suited Caesar Flickerman who seemed to be greatly enjoying the attention. Avox brushed by with trays of delicacies to the districts—jumbo shrimp, dates, berries of every kind, chocolate, and more—but she fastidiously wiped her hands and looked away. 

Someone offered her a champagne flute.

She stared at the bubbles for a moment before accepting it. Alcohol was a good way to stave off hunger. It was also a good way to enjoy these types of functions.

  “If you keep scowling like that, you’re going to get frown lines,” Gloss said with an amused smirk. Emerald kept one off of her face. He seemed to understand that she didn’t want to talk to him and, with a cheeky grin, crept closer. “Caesar hosts the best parties in the Capitol.” 

It has been, as the kids say, a hot minute so apologies to everyone. I'm not sure if I'll ever be super active, but I definitely want to get better at posting some things I write (because my Google docs is filled with stuff I think there's interest for, lots of fandoms, and some very obscure fix-its for even more obscure movies) so I'm glad to hear that someone likes what I'm posting!!!

I'm not sure atm if I want to commit to a whole story, but I'm really enjoying writing snippets and blurbs for stuff rn, so there will definitely be more red skies warning content to come for my Jack sparrow stans! ❤️ ❤️❤️

Red Skies Warning: (POTC, 2003)

The sea was, in lack of a better word, blue.

Not the type of blue that she was used to seeing. No, Edwina rarely did anything other than stare at the sea from the shoreline of Port Royal, and though the weather was fair and the island beautiful, seeing the white crest of waves in the distance that broke up the solemn blue of the ocean did not do it justice.

In reality, the sea wasn't just a wash of aquamarine, but turquoise, seafoam, navy and royal, with wafts of white, purple, and pink depending on the time of day. It was so clear that she could see schools of fish jolt near the surface, dolphins that played in the wake of the HMS Interceptor. At night, the sunset would cast hues of every color imaginable on the horizon; at sunrise, she could catch swirls of orange and red lit up like fire.

Even she had to admit that art did it no justice. It was absolutely breathtaking.

"Beautiful, ain't it?"

"What on Earth do you think you're doing?" Edwina asked with a sharply arched brow, watching as both Will and the pirate turned on their heels to gape at her. She suspected it was her presence that had them jumping in their boots, though she did note how Sparrow's eyes raked up and down the length of her frame while Will's simply widened in surprise.

"Ed—Edwina," Will stammered, before snapping his mouth shut entirely when he realized he wasn't quite sure what to say.

She supposed there wasn't much to say. After all, he was breaking a pirate out of prison. She doubted there was any sort of social etiquette to follow in this sort of instance—the catching a friend doing something highly illegal sort—and so the three of them simply stared at one another for a moment.

Edwina Thorpe, daughter of Commander Theodore Thorpe III, was not made for high society of any kind.

She much preferred the life she lived as a young child; poor, but without any adult so bothered about whether she was wearing pink ribbons in her hair or shoes on her feet. When her father was not quite so prominent in the Royal Navy and when her mother was not so obsessed with the good standings of those stationed on the island of Port Royal. It was during those early years that Edwina learned the secrets that the island held, dancing in the cobblestone alleyway with the girls down the street or having the blacksmith's boy teach her how to properly swing a wooden sword.

Yet, time passed, and her father was recognized for both his obedience to the law and indifference to his family. He was a proud man, but not of them.

Certainly, not of her.

And so, when it became evident that Edwina spent perhaps too much time with the Turner boy and too little time at balls or banquets, it soon became her parent's main ambition for her to be married off. The men of Port Royal were hardly conversationalists, however, and as Edwina felt the noose tighten around her neck, she found solace in the only other woman on the isle that seemed to dread marriage as much as she did.

Until, of course, Elizabeth Swan decided to get herself kidnapped by pirates.

Whether it was for her friend or for the adventure, Edwina didn't hesitate to aid the Turner boy in freeing a pirate from the brig so they could set sail on some grand rescue. He wasn't the first pirate she had laid eyes on, nor the first man to smile at her like that, but Edwina learned quite quickly that he wasn't like any man she had ever met before.

He was wild, untamable, true to himself and nothing else; just like the sea. And though he thought he had lived it all, unfortunately for Captain Jack Sparrow, it took no time at all before he realized that he had never quite encountered a problem like Edwina before.

She wasn't sure which she fell in love with first, but Edwina knew the moment she stepped aboard the HMS Interceptor that things would never be the same again.

Love Mummified (The Mummy, 1999)

Running.

They were running. Again.

And just like the time on the boat, and the time they raced across the sand, it seemed that there was no plan. Perhaps that was another thing that Rick and Louis had in common; foresight was not their strong suit.

"Rick, what is the plan here?" Catherine cried as the group barreled further down a dark hallway that was coated with spiderwebs. Their only source of light was the torch being carried by Rick, and each movement he made cast exaggerated shadows all around them.

"Plan?" he echoed, a familiarly stupid look on his face. They reached a circular room that opened into three different hallways; none of which were marked. The group spun through it at random. "Uh, how about, don't die? That seem like a good enough plan for you, Catherine?"

Despite the time crunch, she glanced away from one of the halls to scowl at him. "The sarcasm is entirely unhelpful, O'Connell," she snarked.

"Oh, really? Because I found it pretty damn helpful, actually!"
