Do you and Belgium sometimes argue about your language?

Avatar

Yes, yes we do.

A lot of phrases and words sound and look alike, but mean very different things.

Sjotten: Belgium- to shootNetherlands-? (never heard of it)

Laat die botten werken:Belgium- get to work/work harder

Netherlands- let your bones work harder????

I bet you can own anyone when it comes to wearing clogs.

Not really. Because the shoes are made out of wood, they feel slippery on most stone paths. Also, I am not used to them anymore.

If you wear clogs for a while, they form after your feet though and the shape is comfortable. But don’t try to lift your foot up too much.

The one and only reason Belgium did not put on her formal uniform. Also the reason why some asks are answered with my sister looking different form her historical self.

have you and Belgium ever had any fights?

So when I needed a bit more money, my sister flipped and declared she would have none of that. She still holds on grudge on me for that.

The real cause is a bit different though.

The Belgian Revolution had many causes and consequences; the main causes were the domination of the Dutch over the economic, political, and social institutions of the Kingdom (although at that time the Belgian population was larger than the Dutch).

The traditional economy of trade were also centered in the present day Netherlands, particularly in the large port of Amsterdam. Furthermore, although 62% of the population lived in the South, they were assigned the same number of representatives in the States General. At the most basic level, the North was for free trade, while less developed local industries in the South called for the protection of tariffs. Free trade lowered the price of bread, made from wheat imported through the reviving port of Antwerp.

A linguistic reform in 1823 was intended to make Dutch the official language in the Flemish provinces, since it was the language of most of the Flemish population. This reform met with strong opposition from the upper and middle classes who at the time were mostly French-speaking. Faith was another cause of the Belgian Revolution. In the politics of the south Roman Catholicism was the important factor, while the Netherlands was mostly reformed Christian.
