Favorite bit of adventurers bible lore is that Marcille was a researcher developing new healing magic before she joined the party but then learned all the offensive spells we see her use in a single day. Insane behavior. Imagine knowing the top med student in the country and one day she drops out of her cancer research program and perfects the art of making pipe bombs in 24 hours.

ok but if bruce wayne somehow came upon zuko fresh out of banishment he would lose his mind.

black hair? check. bad parent(s)? check. trauma? double check.

bruce: how’d you get your scar?

zuko: my dad got mad at me for saying that killing people is wrong so he lit my face on fire and banished me.

bruce, vibrating with excitement, already pulling adoption papers from his utilility: that’s terrible. how do you feel about capes.

Zuko: Do you mind if I wear this blue demon mask?

Bruce: *sniff, tear in his eye* Not at all.

*Zuko fighting the Joker*

J: "wan na kno w h ow i go t thes e sc ar s"

Z: *rips off mask* i don't give a fuck

I’m still stuck at the “batman has adoption papers in his utility belt”.

“Quick, it’s time to use the Bat-adoption papers!”

Bat-option papers

Okay, but you’re missing the best part of this.

Alfred and Iroh complimenting each other on tea while they discuss their overly dramatic children.

iroh: once, i told zuko that he needs to work on his inter turmoil. he screamed at me that he had no such inner turmoil, and then proceeded to go to a cliff during a thunderstorm to scream at God to strike him with lightning

alfred: master bruce and i have that interaction at least three times per week.

I see your "Alfred and Iroh as tea bros" and raise you "Alfred and Iroh as tea rivals"

Consider

Iroh: you too must learn patience. Boiling the water ruins the delicate flavor of the white jade
Alfred: oh I'm dreadfully sorry - for some reason I expected this tea to have TEA in it

(later)

Alfred: *aggressively laying out full tea service with milk, lemon, sugar, and, just to drive his point in, jam*
Iroh: *dying inside*

excellent addition

hey bruce spent a lot of his bat-study abroad in the far east and has kind of a weeb weapon collection so proposal, what if Bruce appreciates Iroh’s tea

while Zuko is enthusiastic about cream and sugar

further fueling their dad-figures’ passive-aggressive rivalry?

You had me at Zuko vs. Joker, I was crying by the Eastern vs. Western tea service

Wait a minute. Batman and Zuko have the same arch-nemesis.

This is a map of the range of all giraffe species. By my count that puts them in just 16 countries out of the 54 in Africa (of which 5 are island countries with no territory on the continental mainland). That's 30%, quite a long way shy of all, and as you can see many of those countries that do have giraffes only have a tiny portion of their territory within giraffes' habitats

Wow, I knew they weren't in "every African country", but I didn't realize just how restricted their range was

People forget how environmentally diverse Africa is. If you compare the map above with a koppen climate map, you’ll notice that Giraffes tend to live in semi-arid steppe regions and that they’re pretty much separated by huge portions of tropical regions that are much more densely packed with trees and the like:

The giraffe is a pretty big animal and it’s not going to be able to really manoeuvre itself in a rainforest; it’s a plains animal and you can pretty much see that in the difference between the Giraffe and it’s closest relative the Okapi, which is much smaller and much more suited for life in a tropical environment.

TL;DR - Africa is a big place with a range of environments that are not suitable for every animal that you might associate with the continent. Lions and Zebra are not gonna be found alongside Gorillas and Okapi which aren’t gonna be found with Camels and Fennec Foxes.

I was putting this in the tags, but y’know what, I’m putting it here.

Teachers? If you don’t know something, just say so!

  • It keeps you from giving false information
  • Kids should know that adults don’t know everything just because they’re adults, or teachers, or parents
  • You don’t even have to stop your lesson! “I don’t know exactly, I’ll write it down and we’ll look it up later” or have them look it up, make it part of their homework!
  • If the material you’re teaching from is wrong or outdated, and you discover this, let them know! Correct yourself, normalize the idea that adults don’t know everything!

I’m not going to pretend that this doesn’t add more to an already difficult job. Being a good teacher (hell, being a bad teacher) takes far more energy than I am capable of giving, and having to suddenly switch to e-learning, or in person socially distanced teaching has to be a nightmare. But try not to intentionally lie to your students to make things easier.

I am a teacher, and I stand behind this message!

We don't know everything, and it is good to remember that the WHOLE point of school is to learn that there is a lot to learn, and here are some good ways you can learn!

Also, don't lie to kids, they know you're lying. And learning that lying is okay if you can get away with it (even if just temporarily) is a BAD lesson to teach.

I would like to add some information about the Giraffe's restricted habitat in Africa. Of course natural environmental factors are a key important reason for why you do or don't find a particular animal in that habitat. This is important to know, understand and be taught. This knowledge helps people understand the importance of protecting all different kinds of habitat that supports a rich diversity of life in nature.

Also on that note, I think it should be added and the information be spread that Giraffe's are further restricted by habitat loss, habitat fragmentation, habitat degradation, human population growth, poaching, disease, war and civil unrest threaten the remaining giraffe numbers and their distribution throughout Africa. ** Source Giraffe Conservation Foundation ** https://giraffeconservation.org/facts/what-are-the-main-threats-to-giraffe-why-are-their-numbers-declining/ To visualize this impact please see this map (also featured from the Giraffe Conservation Foundation) https://giraffeconservation.org/2019/08/08/updated-giraffe-distribution-map/

This map shows their historic range and how it was directly impacted by human expansion. Giraffe's are not the only animals suffering from this in Africa, Lion's too are in decline. One of the biggest hindrances to both of these iconic animals in recovering their population is the fact that no one talks about it. Just like this post starts out, there is a common belief that Giraffe's and Lion's and other African species are just... thriving all over Africa. That is not the case. We are loosing them. Please spread this knowledge, tell people about their declining populations. Education and information is the first step to saving these magnificent creatures.

I know this is going to make me sound pretensions but I have to get it off my chest. I feel an unimaginable rage when someone posts a photo and is like "this picture looks like a renaissance painting lol" when the photo clearly has the lighting, colors and composition of a baroque or romantic painting. There are differences in these styles and those differences are important and labeling every "classical" looking painting as renaissance is annoying and upsetting to me. And anytime I come across one of those posts I have to put down my phone and go take a walk because they make me so mad

In case you're curious here's what I mean.

Renaissance(distinct lines, stability and the individual man):

Baroque (bold, chaotic, dramatic):

Romantic(romanticize the simple hard working life):

Do you see the difference?

I believe this is Hvaldimir, who, get this, is believed to be a defected Russian spy. Literally.

He showed up in Norway in April 2019 wearing a camera harness labeled “equipment of St. Petersburg”, has tried pulling ropes on boats, is obviously very familiar with people and prefers to hang with people. While we know Russia has marine mammal government programs (the US does too, but it’s bottlenose dolphins and California sea lions), the extent of their programs is not declassified like the US Navy’s are.

He likes to play fetch and be scratched around the blowhole.

He has taken a diver’s knife out of the scabbard, played with underwater drones, stolen a go pro from a kayaker, and other mischief. Notably, it has been said by the Murmansk Marine Biology Institute, who may have been who trained Hvaldimir, that seals are better equipped to be polar military animals, as they have high professionalism that belugas lack.

Anyhow, enjoy Hvaldimir (the name combines the Norwegian word for whale, Hval, with Vladimir, as in Putin), the defected Russian spy whale.

seals are better equipped to be polar military animals, as they have high professionalism that belugas lack.

it was only when they got to the bit about liking to play “fetch”

did i realise they were talking about the whale

not the man

For the record this is missing the post where he explains that she didnt go in specifically to harrass the worker. She went in there just to inform something along the lines of " i know you dont have control of this but the sign is misleading and I need to tell your manager" but then the worker started preaching the "true science" and girl had the green light to go to war from there
