jennie normally was attentive but in the midst of all her talking, she hadn’t realized what she should have been paying heed to. she worried the second the other two members were nowhere to be seen and even more so when none of the managers were following along chaeyoung and her anymore. it must have been the bounce to their steps or maybe the many turns they’ve made through the walk that had caused the rest lose their tracks just as much as the pair did.
and yes, she did thought it would be best to go back before chaeyoung even finished the question. none of the shops in the certain street were familiar, worry-wart miss jennie kim noticed first thing. but the visible panic in her company made her compelled to keep her cool, as it always was with the younger members. it was the same with the temptation to cave in. she did so without much persuasion necessary from chaeyoung, agreeing the moment she had asked.
she sighed at the thought of being weak to inclinations but all that were swept away at the sight of the store’s interior. there were objects of delight and interest claiming her instant attention; there were tiny cacti, close to wilting flowers tucked into medicine jars and bottles, flamingos, vintage cameras, globes, and circle sunglasses decorated front of the store greeting them as they entered. “no regrets.” she mused out loud with a soft laughter, gaze stuck to all that adorned the small bookstore while her hand raised in wait for a high five.

when they walked through the door, the small bell from up above signaling their arrival, it was as if they they had entered another realm. the sunny streets were long gone and now the pair was maneuvering through spiky cacti and teetering bookstacks. quite excitedly, chaeyoung returned jennie’s high-five, careful not to topple over anything peculiarly placed. one wrong turn and everything could come crashing down.

chaeyoung smiled to herself, feeling at peace within the trinkets and treasures. veronica’s felt like a home away from home. somehow both so foreign yet so comforting. her eyes dazzled at all the collected things and she began to wonder who kept the store. how could someone amass such a strange collection of items? and were they for sale? she ran her fingers across some displayed books, feeling all the grooves and ripples of the cover and binding. if she had the time, she wished to come here everyday, to be able to read a new book and experience a new story inside veronica’s. such a life would be a dream.

grabbing a pair of oversized, vintage glasses and placing them atop the bridge of her nose, she turned back to her partner in crime. “do you think the lady that owns it is named veronica?” she asked in a hushed voice. she peered over jennie’s shoulder, wondering what the other had found.

they had wandered too far from the group, something inevitable when they walked hand in hand, minding only their conversation, truly in their own little world. chaeyoung laughed and held tightly as jennie spoke on and on about what she planned to do with all the things purchased during their shopping trip. the sun hung high in the sky, close enough to grab if she really dared. it was only noon.

as they walked through the unusually quiet streets of hongdae on their day off, rows and rows of shops lining their travels, it took a couple of minutes until chaeyoung realized how far they strayed. she stopped abruptly, gazing around at all the dark, red brick that outfitted the buildings ahead. “i think we’ve come too far,” she murmured, her voice filled with uncertainty. “do you think we should go back?”

worried eyes looked about, noticing how empty the streets were, and so her heart quickened, afraid they had made a wrong turn. but where? she bit into her rose-colored lips, reading the shop names. before further panic could set in, she set her sights on a quaint bookshop by the name of veronica’s. it excited her, recalling the australian duo, and so she pointed it out with a polished index finger. “look! it’s so cute. let’s go in, yes?”
